Last year, Netflix announced plans for an anime film which will serve as a prequel to The Witcher, and the first full trailer for Nightmare of the Wolf has now been unveiled along with some new character images.

Specific plot details for Nightmare of the Wolf are still under wraps, but we do know that the story will revolve around a younger take on Geralt's mentor, Vesemir. This experienced witcher was a major supporting character in the books and video games, but this will be the first time his past is explored in any great detail. Vesemir will be played by Kim Bodnia in the upcoming second season of The Wicther.

You can get a first glimpse of young Vesemir below, along with witcher leader Declan, sorceress Tetra Gilcrest, and Kaedwen noblewoman Lady Zerbst.

Vesemir will be voiced by Theo James, Tetra will play Lara Pulver, Deglan will be voiced by Graham McTavish, and BSG alum Mary McDonnell will bring Lady Zerbst to life.

The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf is set to premiere on August 23.

Looks pretty good. Reminds me of the Castelvania animation but it’s Studio Mir who did Legend of Korra.

@BlackBeltJones - reminded me more of Dota, which I think is done by Mir.

@BlackBeltJones - I wasn't too big on it. Kinda felt like I needed prior knowledge of the games to really understand the lore and what was going on

@bkmeijer - I agree. I literally did a deep dive on the games to understand some stuff. I didn’t mind it too much and still appreciated the show.

@BlackBeltJones - I wanted to do too, but the show didn't make me care enough about it. It still had some cool stuff though I still appreciate

@BlackBeltJones - It doesn't help that they got Theo James who voiced Hector in Castlevania and his version of Vesemir is giving big Belmont energy.

@Kumkani - MAJOR Trevor energy.

Maybe they’re looking at Castlevania as a blueprint but I’m not sure that’s necessarily a good thing.

Lately I've been liking the idea of more books and video games getting anime or animated adaptations. I know we're getting that live action film but I would have also loved a Ghost of Tsushima anime series, even if it was done by Netflix.

Stories from Red Dead, Halo, A Song of Fire and Ice, and LotR would be cool too.
