WARRIOR NUN Won't Return For A Third Season After All... But For A Trilogy Of Movies!

Though details are sparse, it's been announced that cancelled Netflix fantasy/horror series Warrior Nun won't be back for another season after all, but for a feature film trilogy instead...

Netflix cancelled Warrior Nun back in December, just a month after its second season premiere, and fans immediately began to show their support for the series by campaigning for it to be given another shot.

An online petition to revive the show gained over 120,000 signatures, and the hashtag #SaveWarriorNun was tweeted more than five million times.

Back in June, series creator Simon Barry announced that the fan campaign had paid off, and Ava Silva and friends would return for more adventures - but not on Netflix. We assumed another network or streamer had picked up the show, but we now have an even more exciting update.

Executive producer Dean English shared the following video announcement earlier today (via SFFGazette.com).

“I need to start by thanking all of you loyal fans. It’s because of you and your incredible energy that we keep pushing forward to make these stories. You guys really make it all worthwhile. So thank you so much for your continued support.”

“I am very happy to announce that Warrior Nun is coming back as a trilogy of motion pictures. Once again, a trilogy of feature films. Three,” he added.

Huge news, but with the strikes still in full effect, it's probably going to be a while before we find out exactly what to expect from these movies and the creative teams involved.

"One thing we need to touch on involves the strike in Hollywood involving actors and writers," English continued. "And it's due to that that we cannot make any announcements today on that front. Some may ask, "Does this perhaps infer that there's going to be a universe being launched of Warrior Nun, which could expand into films and TV series following characters that we already know?" The answer to that question is yes. And there will be more details in the future."

"Warrior Nun revolves around the story of a 19-year-old woman who wakes up in a morgue with a new lease on life and a divine artefact embedded in her back. She discovers she is now part of the ancient Order of the Cruciform Sword that has been tasked with fighting demons on Earth, and powerful forces representing both heaven and hell want to find and control her."

I keep hearing about this but still haven't even watched a trailer. The name alone kinda like.... I think I get it already lol but if my imagination is in tune, this is something I would enjoy. Idk if I should wait until the movies are made they jump in in case they are bad and I don't waste my time or get hooked into something that tanks at the end.

@TheVandalore - You mean the show on Netflix? You may or may not like it. It's based partly on the comic Warrior Nun Areala. I think it's awesome and there are some badass Nuns in that show.

I read the news when the showrunner first broke the news in June as well as earlier this week when the trilogy of films was announced and you got to admire the work the Warrior Nun fandom put in to save their show after Netflix added yet another victim to it's long ass ridiculous list of axed shows they never bothered to promote or even wait to see how it resonated. Which is saying something because it was watched countlessly by these fans to help it get renewed.

I have a lot of respect to what these fans did, for never giving up in their efforts to bring back their favourite show from the depths of that unfair cancelation and see it reach the full vision it's showrunner has. Nowadays streamers (and networks but mostly the former) casually go and cancel whatever they feel like that makes anyone question what's even the point in getting invested in characters and their stories when they're almost like ready from the start to pull the plug. But these fans fought like hell and proved themselves an example of the power that fans have.

Seeing them persevere 6-8 months later like this, after their show was taken from them (just one month after S2 debuted in fact) reignites my own drive to not throw the towel in the Stargirl revival campaign. Geoff Johns' passion project damn deserves to live again and continue as the awesome Earth-2 setting Elseworlds it was.
