Did AHSOKA Episode 3 Provide A Clue To Marrok's True Identity? SPOILERS

The third episode of Ahsoka is now streaming, and "Time To Fly" might just provide a hint as to the identity of the mysterious masked Inquisitor known as Marrok...

Episode 3 of Ahsoka is now streaming on Disney+, and while the action-packed (if a little on the short side) instalment didn't really advance the main story in any significant way, it did feature the live-action debut of another Star Wars Rebels character (more here), and may have dropped a little clue about the true identity of the masked Inquisitor known as Marrok.

Spoilers follow.

At one point during "Time To Fly," Ahsoka, Sabine and a temporarily out-of-action Huyang encounter a pod of Purrgil (the interdimensional space-whales from Rebels) while being pursued by Shin Hati, Marrok and their forces.

As they navigate through the gentle creatures, Shin keeps her focus firmly on the T6, while Marrok turns his head to watch the Purrgil pass his ship.

Why is this significant? Well, it may not be (a character showing interest in a group of massive space-whales wouldn't exactly be unusual), but something about the way the camera lingers on Marrok for just a split second longer than Hati as he watches the creatures leads us to believe that this scene might be hinting that it really is Ezra Bridger beneath that visor.

In the series finale of Rebels, the Purrgil transport Ezra and Grand Admiral Thrawn to another galaxy, so it would only make sense that the now corrupted/possibly brainwashed Force-wielder would be distracted by seeing them again.

Granted, it might be a bit of a stretch, especially since there's no real evidence to back up the Ezra theory. There are also several other possibilities (Starkiller is another popular pick, as is Barriss Offee), and it might well turn out that Marrok is simply another faceless Inquisitor that'll ultimately be dispatched in battle without ever unmasking.

What do you think? Drop us a comment down below.

Set after the fall of the Empire, Ahsoka follows the former Jedi knight Ahsoka Tano as she investigates an emerging threat to a vulnerable galaxy.

The series stars Rosario Dawson in the title role, with Natasha Liu Bordizzo as Sabine Wren, Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Hera Syndulla, Diana Lee Inosanto as Morgan Elsbeth, Ivanna Sakhno as Shin Hati, Ray Stevenson as Baylan Skoll, David Tennant as Huyang, Lars Mikkelsen as Grand Admiral Thrawn, with Eman Esfandi appearing as Ezra Bridger.

Kevin Kiner was announced as the series' composer.

Ahoska is written by executive producer Dave Filoni, alongside executive producers Favreau, Kennedy, Wilson, and Beck. Gilchrist is co-executive producer. The series’ directors include Filoni, Steph Green, Peter Ramsey, Jennifer Getzinger, Geeta Vasant Patel and Rick Famuyiwa.

I firmly believe it's Ezra

@TheShape9859 - it probably is. I mean they did really did alter his voice. Had we not heard the Ezra’s actors voice before meeting marrok. Then it could have been new canon starkiller. But Ezra makes a lot of sense right now.

@KaptainKhaos - Marrok respects women. There is no way it's Tyrantbossmedia

I hope it’s canon Starkiller or something like that. But it’s most likely Ezra. Too many hints. He is named after a wolf like the other two dark Jedi. And if you read old Arthurian myths, his name is based off a Knight, who got tricked by a witch and turned into a werewolf. Ezra was big into wolves, they were his friends. The witch being obviously Elsbeth or whatever her name is. I mean, she could only know that Thrawn is alive if someone told her that he is alive. Now, Ezra is either undercover or is brainwashed by her magic.

But I bet it’s 7/10 that’s him. I hope not. But it’s him.

@Mrnorth1921 - Marrok is important for sure as he is the only villain besides Morgan Elsbeth to get merchandise. He has both a Star Wars Black Series figure and a Funko Pop releasing soon and the two other villains do not. So he must be pivotal to the plot later in the series for him to be promoted with merchandise.

It's Mephesto... pretty much as creative as this theory

How does Marrok being Ezra even make sense in this universe? Is this a Palpatine First Order ass pull?

@EnergyVamp - someone has to know that Thrawns a live. Found a way back. Was injured or whatever, the witch then turned him into her slave. Makes him pretend to be an inquisitor.

@Mrnorth1921 - elsbeth literally says in episode 1“Thrawn calls to me from another galaxy.”

@cham2119 - and how does he do that? He isn’t force sensitive. Maybe it’s her magic as well?

@EnergyVamp - if they made Marrok Kanan Jarrus, then it would be a Palpatine First Order move. As he was incinerated, just like Palps.

This Marrok is Ezra theory doesnt make sense. His connection to the force is unique with the Purrgils and the world between worlds. Only to be controlled and converted to an inquisitor?

It's Mephisto all over again. Might as well make him Hondo.

“Somehow he came back” I will laugh my head off if this is the explanation even if it’s tongue in cheek towards rise of skywalker.

In The Mandalorian season 3 when Din and Grogu were flying through Hyperspace and Din was asleep, Grogu spotted a pod of Purrgil and the camera zoomed in on his reaction. Perhaps both Marrok and Grogu experienced a pod of Purrgil for the first time and it shows a side of their innocence for a brief moment.

@SonOfAGif - Good theory for that possible parallel.

I still think he’s Kanan Jarrus. I think after the explosion at the fuel depot they found him barely alive and Thrawn ordered them to save him and place him in a bacta tank. They brainwashed him or he has amnesia and since he’s blind, he doesn’t really need to see, just look at his mask, who can actually see out of that?

I think Sabine senses him or Jacen does, because you know Hera and Zeb are going to race to their rescue.

@Timerider - i am more inclined on this theory than the Ezra one.

@Timerider - I like your theory and hadn't thought of it. It fits perfect with my theory too that I used to say it's Ezra. My thinking was simple, this character is almost exactly the same in every single way as Rinzler in Tron Legacy and I suspect Filoni is stealing that idea. Rinzler was Tron brainwashed basically so your theory actually fits mine better.

As long as they don't go the lazy AF Erza twist I'm good.Plenty of other interesting characters to introduce, especially on the Inquisitor side of things.

I also caught on that moment when Marrok became almost too distracted with the Purrgil passing by them.

This also being Star Wars a reveal such as him being Ezra would be a nice homage to Darth Vader's "I am your father" to Luke.

But that other theory about him being Kanan could possibly also hit close to home and involve Hera as well on a more personal level.
