OBI-WAN KENOBI Star Rupert Friend Shares His Excitement For The Series And Teases Lots Of Huge Cameos

Obi-Wan Kenobi is set during a very interesting, exciting point in the Star Wars franchise's timeline, opening the door to a lot of big reveals and a fascinating exploration of this period. While a big focus of the limited series will be "Ben" Kenobi's battle with Darth Vader, we'll also see the Sith Inquisitors, a young Luke Skywalker and Leia Organa, and no doubt plenty of surprise cameos.

That latter point was touched on by star Rupert Friend (who plays The Grand Inquisitor) during a recent interview in which he referred to the show as a "thrilling [addition] to the Star Wars canon."

"If it’s possible to be any more excited than folks already are, I would be. I think [the series] is one of the most thrilling additions to the Star Wars canon," the actor exclaimed. "I think Ewan McGregor is doing things with that role that is a dream for fans of the original films. You know, we can’t obviously have Alec Guinness back, but I just think Ewan was absolutely born to play that part."

"And wonderful cameos from people I obviously can’t tell you," Friend continued, "but Easter eggs galore. Yeah, it’s a thrilling ride." Needless to say, we can't wait to see what surprises are in store.

Recently, a new plot synopsis was revealed that teased the Jedi Master's battle with the Empire and a mission we believe will involve him leaving Tatooine to come to Princess Leia's rescue. "During the reign of the Galactic Empire, former Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi embarks on a crucial mission," it reads. "Kenobi must confront allies turned enemies and face the wrath of the Empire."

Fans have expressed mixed feelings about Friend taking over the role of The Grand Inquisitor from Jason Isaacs after he voiced the villain in Star Wars Rebels. We don't know what led to Isaacs being replaced, but Friend is a talented actor and clearly excited about his place in this Galaxy Far, Far Away.

Obi-Wan Kenobi premieres on Disney+ with its first two episodes on May 27.

I knew the face was familiar, he was Agent 47 in the Hitman sequel/reboot and Agent Quinn on Homeland.
Good actor but I somehow feel they should have gotten Jason Isaacs for the role. Sure he's a lot older but as the original voice actor for the character on Rebels it would have been fitting if they got him.

As for the cameos I'm sure we'll see: Palpatine in a Holo-Scene with Vader, Qui-Gon as a force ghost communicating with Obi-Wan, R2D2, Luke as a kid on Tattooine (already seen in the trailer), Bail Organa and a young Leia.

Cameos I hope we'll see: Darth Maul as an uneasy ally for Obi-Wan or in a flash forward to their final duel (a recreation of the Rebels fight), Jar-Jar as a broken shell of his former self reinvogorated by the fact that Obi-Wan has survived (not kidding, I want that character redeemed damn it), Mace Windu as a recluse former Jedi and perhaps Yoda.

@Blergh - According to a leak, there is a colony of force-sensitive beings on the planet Jabiim. Mace Windu could fit into this part of the story. Windu could lead the last surviving Jedi and he thinks they are the only hope. When Darth Vader exterminates the Jedi colony and kills Master Windu for good, Vader thinks he has destroyed the last great Jedi hope.

I don't care about Easter eggs anymore. I can't tell you how many shows I have watched across different mediums that have Easter eggs...meanwhile, there's no consistency with the plot, absent-mindedness with regard to canon, etc. I appreciate them, but they should be the icing on the cake, not the cake. No one's gonna care about how great the Easter eggs were if the series itself is not.
