OBI-WAN KENOBI's Writing Team Includes TOY STORY, JOHN CARTER, And WALL-E Scribe Andrew Stanton

Obi-Wan Kenobi went through multiple iterations before Deborah Chow was tasked with directing the Disney+ limited series. Writer Joby Harold penned a big screen version of the story and ultimately helped turn that into a TV show, but the full list of scribes for episodes 1 - 5 have now been revealed.

Those come our way courtesy of a listing on the Writers Guild of America West's website.

Episode 1: Teleplay by Joby Harold and Hossein Amini and Stuart Beattie,
Story by Stuart Beattie and Hossein Amini
Episode 2: Teleplay by Joby Harold, Story by Stuart Beattie and Hossein Amini
Episode 3: Written by Joby Harold & Hannah Friedman and Hossein Amini and Stuart Beattie
Episode 4: Written by Joby Harold & Hannah Friedman
Episode 5: Written by Joby Harold & Andrew Stanton

So, what's noteworthy about the names we didn't know were part of Obi-Wan Kenobi? Beattie has a long list of credits, including Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black PearlCollateral, and I, Frankenstein. Friedman, meanwhile, has worked on TV shows like Wet Hot American Summer: First Day of Camp and About a Boy, and scripted episodes of Disney+'s Willow revival.

The biggest surprise, however, is Andrew Stanton. The Pixar veteran has written everything from Toy Story to Wall-E and Finding Nemo, and his involvement is in equal parts unexpected and exciting.

Obi-Wan Kenobi is shaping up to be an incredible series, and there's understandably a lot of excitement surrounding the Jedi Master's rematch with Darth Vader. Throw in the Sith Inquisitors, a young Princess Leia and Luke Skywalker, and more of Ewan McGregor's "Ben" Kenobi, and this one can't get here soon enough. Hopefully, a new trailer will be released during Star Wars Celebration.

The first two episodes of Obi-Wan Kenobi premiere on Disney+ on May 27.

I am prob 1 of the few who wanted a John Carter of Mars franchise. I really liked that film and thought it was severely undermarketed and appreciated. Funny how Disney spent years prior in developing John Carter to live up and compete with Star Wars, then a couple months later they ended up buying lucas arts and decided to let John Carter flop.

Glad to see he is still writing and directing. I look forward to what he contributes to obi-wan.

@mastakilla39 - I know it gets hate and it bombed financially, but I had a lot of fun watching it. Granted, idk the source material so I am sure there were issues there but I do wish we got more.

This creative team is a huge step up from the Mandalorian and the Book of Boba Fett, as it should be. This story ties directly into the saga and needs to be done right, or it risks undermining Obi Wan's character entirely.

It does indeed look like the show is an expansion of the original movie concept, as you mentioned.

There are a few movies that I think would have worked better as TV series or miniseries: THE MATRIX, and the events in between MATRIX 2 and 3. JOHN CARTER. PIRATES 2 and 3. SOLO. ROGUE ONE….

@NoAssemblyReqd - Pirates of the Caribbean 2 and 3 really did the Infinity War/Endgame before Marvel. They don't get enough praise for that in my opinion

Welp, I have a good feeling that episode is going to be emotional in some way.

Super excited for this.

Despite its faults I thought John Carter had potential. Hopefully down the road they give another movie a shot or even a Disney Plus series.

He’s got a good resume. I’ve definitely enjoyed everything he’s done, wish we could have gotten more John Carter.

I know John Carter has a mixed reaction, but I still like the atmosphere it had. From what I remember it really reminded me of Star Wars (episodes 2 and 3 specificallt), so I think that could work to its advantage here

John Carter just felt impossible to make, but I weirdly liked it? It was definitely the most ambitious Disney live action project I believe
