Venom: Let There Be Carnage looks like it should be a fun ride, and with Venom, Carnage, and Shriek all in the same film, you'd best believe that things are going to get pretty crazy. Now, it's come to light that Sony Pictures may be looking to add yet another symbiote from the comics to the mix in the sequel.
In today's trailer, we saw that Stephen Graham (Boardwalk Empire) plays a cop in the film, and IGN has since confirmed with Sony Pictures that the actor is playing Detective Peter Mulligan.
If the name rings a bell, it's because he's better known as Toxin. That symbiote is Carnage's offspring, and Cletus Kasady planned to kill him in order to stop his "son" from usurping him. Venom, meanwhile, hoped to turn his "grandson" into an ally and fellow Lethal Protector, and Mulligan ended up being inadvertently bonded with Carnage after being in the wrong place at the wrong time.
Toxin would ultimately leave the police force and his family behind, and it's feasible that this origin story is set to play out in Venom: Let There Be Carnage as well.
It's likely Sony Pictures is looking to keep a Toxin reveal under wraps, and that symbiote joining Venom during the final battle to help put Carnage down is a possibility. However, there's nothing to say this is going to play out, and Mulligan's appearance could be a simple Easter Egg.
