When it was revealed that Venom would be part of Spider-Man 3, comic book fans were understandably thrilled. The decision to cast Topher Grace raised eyebrows, of course, while we'd later learn Avi Arad forced director Sam Raimi to shoehorn Eddie Brock into the threequel.
As an unwanted character in the movie, we weren't exactly shocked when Venom essentially received third billing behind Sandman and Harry Osborn's "Green Goblin." The villain was killed while battling Spider-Man and that was the last we saw of him until 2018's Venom.
The hope had been that the reboot would redeem the Lethal Protector on screen, but the movie drew a mixed response and largely underwhelmed. Venom: Let There Carnage was an improvement but it's starting to feel like Eddie's #1 fan, Avi, doesn't really understand the character.
Franchise writer Kelly Marcel will direct Venom 3 which, as of now, is dated for July 12, 2024.
Little has been revealed about what we can expect from the movie, but set photos have suggested we'll pick up with Eddie in Mexico shortly after he returns to his reality following a brief visit to the MCU's Earth-616. With that in mind, could a Multiversal adventure be on the way?
Many fans believe so, particularly after watching this video shared by Sony Pictures on TikTok. In that, scenes from the Venom movies and Spider-Man 3 have been cleverly edited together to depict Hardy's anti-hero defeating Grace's and ultimately absorbing his alien costume.
There's no mention of Venom 3 and nothing to suggest this is in any way related to the upcoming movie. However, it's an intriguing video and one which makes us wonder what an exploration of Venom's place in the Multiverse could mean for the franchise moving forward.
A piece of the Venom Symbiote is now in the MCU and we'd be shocked if Marvel Studios doesn't eventually pick up on that, possibly introducing its own version of Eddie in the process.
Honestly, we think this was probably just made for fun and, in that respect, it works really well. You can take a look for yourselves below.
