"Abandon All Hope Ye Who Enter Here" Warner Bros. is Moving Forward With Dante

It seems like the film that was once thought dead has been raised from perdition. Warner Bros. seeks to move forward with Dante Alighieri's "Inferno" from his epic poem "The Divine Comedy."

Deadline has recently reported that Warner Bros. has set their eyes on a script by Dwain Worrell for Dante Alighieri's "Dante's Inferno." From what it seeems like, Warner Bros. is eager to adapt the epic poem into a large scale franchise.  Dante's Inferno is merely one third of a grand story that is ripe for the taking when it come to building piles of money... sorry, I meant franchise.  This only leaves really one question:
Will it be as EPIC as the video game many have come to love and hope for a sequel?

Check out this fan-made CGI trailer that was created by a Naughty Dog animator.

@MexicanSuperman I was looking forward to Alex Proyas' Paradise Lost! Bradley Cooper as Lucifer? That would've been amazing!

Interesting. Wonder how much creative freedom they'll allow themselves with this movie.

If they're going for a more grounded and realistic story, Cillian Murphy would be perfect to play Dante.

If they're taking the video game route, well... Richard Armitage.

@LuisFcknLorenzo I myself was thinking more along the lines of Gerard Butler as Dante and Robert Knepper as Virgil

i know this is unrelated and people find Mayimbe's scoops to be hit or miss, but if true, here's a sweet detail for Civil War.

@scarletwarlock it happened in the book. So that's just an assumption. Yet again, Mayimbe with the detective work.

I really can't see them being all that faithful.
Though it is lyrical, it is not very melodramatic.
What are the big set pieces? Crossing the river Styx? Chilling out with the poets and playwrights in the Elysian fields? Minos transporting them further down?
I mean, I would totally pay for a literal translation, but I can't see it being a blockbuster.
It would be a good theme park ride. A very adult theme park ride, of course.

Still they made a video game out of this, so maybe they're going another way with it.
People are waiting for a sequel to the video game? I guess that one's stuck in Purgatorio, huh?

now that I think of it, his article is really simple, so yeah, I should have just said that,
@chrisKrispy
he could have pulled this one out of his ass, and frankly I usually don't believe his scoops, but as you pointed out it was always likely to happen and Tom just arrived in Germany a few days ago, so most likely easy details will slip, so at the moment I think there's a good chance it will happen, regardless of Mayimbe's ant-climactic, obvious "scoops".

@Nubase

If WB really want another fantasy franchise, maybe they can work out a deal with Marvel for the Thor franchise. I'm positive WB will do better work than Marvel has so far.

If no can deal can happen, then maybe they should make their own Thor movie. We've seen many Hercules films, but not one based on the Nordic Mythos.

Nubase@ You're right, Warners probably are looking for a big fantasy franchise, now.
But instead of taking a chance on a summer movie reinterpretation of a beloved literary classic, why not put all their money and resources into developing something they they already have in their stable that would actually work as the next big fantasy series.
I'm talking about The Sandman, of course.
The Sandman could be bigger than LOTR and Harry Potter combined.

Instead they give it to JGL and say "Do whatever, we don't really care. Might give it a sequel if it's successful". So he shoehorns the whole fvcking franchise into one little movie.

Talk about throwing the baby out with the bath-water.

Y'know what makes me drool?
Seeing, in my mind's eye, all those gorgeous DVD and Blu-Ray slipcase covers for The Sandman special edition movies, with original artwork by Dave McKean, semi-framed by bold colors.
Good fvcking Doom, that would be lush.
But we will never get to see this future come to pass, thanks to JGL.

The Book of Revelation is about the Siege of Jerusalem in 70 AD. Why would you want to see a movie about that?
DukeAcureds
DukeAcureds - 8/20/2015, 11:15 AM
Ramiel@ Sure, that's Peteristic interpretation. But historians will probably tell you that the 70 AD Seige of Jerusalem had a distinct lack of Seven-headed Beasts from the sea, the fiery end of the world and the universe itself being packed away only to recreated as Paradise.
Actually, that would make a pretty good movie, wouldn't it? And, unlike The Divine Comedy, that book has conflict. There are two world wars in that. Armageddon, anybody?

@DukeAcureds @MexicanSuperman

Yea, but the seven-headed dragon, the beast from the earth, the beast of the sea, the locusts, etc are just jewish symbolism. It wasn't meant to be taken literally. The first century Christians knew this.

One based on modern times would be more interesting to the paying audience, I'm sure.

I dont think I've ever enjoyed a videogame more than I enjoyed Dante's Inferno on PS3. If this movie is anywhere near that, I'll buy tickets right now

When I was young, that book mesmerized me. That was until I found out what it really talking about lol. The visuals would be awesome to see on the big screen. The budget would be insane though.

A Diablo movie would also be great, visually.
