FIVE NIGHTS AT FREDDY's Movie Enlists HARRY POTTER Helmer Chris Columbus To Direct
We first heard about the Five Nights At Freddy's some time ago, and now it's been announced that the upcoming video game adaptation has enlisted Harry Potter and Home Alone helmer Chris Columbus to direct.
The Five Nights At Freddy's movie was announced all the way back in 2015 when Warner Bros.-owned New Line Cinema acquired the rights to the hugely popular indie game series. After losing its footing for awhile, it seems that there has been significant progress on the movie, with the project now having secured a director and a new production company.
Hopefully, this means that fans will not have to wait much longer for the film to hit the big screen.
The movie will be directed by Chris Columbus, the well known filmmaker behind many hits such as Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, Home Alone, and Mrs. Doubtfire. Columbus also wrote Gremlins and helped produce Night at the Museum 2.
Blumhouse Productions, the company behind Get Out and The Purge, is now in charge of the movie having acquired the rights from New Line Cinema last year. Blumhouse’s founder and CEO Jason Blum will co-produce the Five Nights at Freddy’s movie alongside Columbus and the game’s developer Scott Cawthon.
Check out the official tweet welcoming Columbus to the staff down below:
Gil Kenan, who was initially attached as director when the project was with New Line Cinema, is now listed as a scriptwriter on IMDB. However, it’s unclear if Kenan is still part of the project now that Blumhouse is in charge.
What are your thoughts on the news? Are you patiently waiting for the Five Nights At Freddy's movie? Do you think this will be a success unlike most video game adaptations? Let us know in the comments below and as always, stay tuned for more news!
