Dick Grayson became Nightwing after he was dismissed from the role of Robin at eighteen. Grayson's Flamebird was Bette Kane. He featured in a Nightwing series from 1996 to 2009; since Wayne's apparent death, Grayson has become the new Batman, subsequently retiring his Nightwing mantle.

Grayson's Nightwing costume was a high-tech suit specially designed for his high-flying acrobatic style. His gauntlets and boots each contained eight compartments in which he could store items. They had a self-destruct feature built into them, similar to the ones in Batman's utility belt, and, as another security measure, the suit contained a one-use-only taser charge, which automatically emitted a high-voltage electrical shock when someone attempted to tamper with either the boots or gauntlets. Each gauntlet's sections could contain a wide array of equipment, such as sonic or smoke pellets, modified batarangs ("Wing-Dings"), knockout gas capsules, and throwable tracers. The right gauntlet was also equipped with a 100,000-volt stun gun. Like the gauntlets, his boot compartments could carry vital equipment such as flares, a rebreather as protection against any airborne non-contact toxins, a mini-computer equipped with fax, modem, GPS and a minidisk re-writable drive. Other items were lock picks, a first-aid kit, a mini-cellphone, flexi-cuffs, antitoxin assortment, wireless listening devices and a small halogen flashlight. After coming to New York, Dick added a black utility belt to his costume, eliminating the need for his boots and gauntlets. Held in spring-loaded pouches in the back of his costume, Dick carried a pair of Escrima truncheons made from an unbreakable polymer that were wielded as both offensive and defensive weapons. Some depictions displayed these tools with the mechanism to shoot a grappling hook attached to a swing line (like Daredevil's billy clubs), while, in other instances, he was either seen using a "line gun" like the one Batman uses or using the grappling/swing lines either stored in or able to be launched from his gauntlets.

nightwing is a great character! nice to see the characters who aren't known in the mainstream getting some face time. hopefully this will build awareness and help move toward a nightwing movie...wishful thinking, i know.

one question: im under the impression that none of these characters are playable and that we have to build our own character, but we can play alongside DC characters in online missions with other users. Is this true?

@ GreenLantern416 - From wikipeida: It is known that players choose a city of origin for their character, the currently known cities being Metropolis and Gotham City. Another location currently known to be in the game is Arkham Asylum, Gotham City's mental institution for criminals (including a number of Batman's more psychopathic enemies, such as the Joker, Poison Ivy, the Riddler, and Two-Face). The character is given either a Justice League or a Legion of Doom communicator - depending on their choice of playing as either a hero or a villain - and the character's allegiance will affect how the game is played; for example, a hero character may encounter a thug robbing an armored truck while a villain character will instead rob (or, depending on character level, assist in the robbing of) said armored truck. It is also known that player characters have threat ratings which will cause both heroes and villains alike to interact accordingly with the character.

So, it looks like you have it right. We create our characters much like "City of Heroes" and rock the DCU alongside DC's character's. Which is sort of cool. Having your own created meta-human getting asked to assist Green Lantern and Flash in taking out some shithead.

It seems like all the missions are in the day so far. I'd like a few missions at night where batman and the rest of the batman 'family' would fit in better. But this game still looks F*CKING SICK!

well i suppose getting to create your own avatar and fight in the DCU will have its own challenges, so I can see this being fun. But I bet half the users will just create characters that look and act exactly like DCU characters instead of getting creative.

JOSH!!!! Tell me all about it cause i wanna know if i should buy it!!! I was dissapointed with the first: Too much landscape, bad fighting skills (too stiff) and repetitive stealth kills. What's better about the second???

Shaman: EVERYTHING!!! Whereas in the first game you were given a mission, had to pickpocket, listen to a conversation and beat someone up (again and again and again) you now have total freedom! You can travel between Venice, Tuscany, Florence and other locations as you please taking on assassination missions, races, story missions, exploring tombs (to unlock something ver cool after doing all six) You can now also but various armour, weapons and robes as well as using money to do up your villa in order to earn more money! There is loads to do man!!! Im 20hrs in and not even a little bored! The main assassinations which are part of the story can all be done in dozens of ways! The story is excellent, the characters are all great and the graphics are amazing! If you like games like InFamous, you'll love this! BUY IT (and Uncharted 2!!!) :D

Yes, Grayson is the Bat.

They messed up his costume a bit... and that's kind of annoying...

Josh- What about the fighting controls??? Are they as stiff as the first??? I freakin' quit playing the first after i was stuck getting jumped by 5 guys at once with no way out to run!!!

Guys, if you want DC/WB to be aware of what you'd want regarding Nightwing, click on my sketch above to comment on an article devoted to just that!!!

Shaman: The fighting system is much better now - you can counter much easier and the fights are actually exciting rather than tedious! :)

Ah, well that makes me feel better. I think i'm still gonna wait for it to become "Greatest Hits" since it is a sure bet. My next game will surely be Darksiders :))

I started reading Nightwing when it was drawn by Scott McDaniel back in '95. I was in 5th grade. I thought, "holy shit, this is awesome artwork" and the rest was history. Nightwing is one of my favorite comic book characters, (besides BATMAN!)

Anyways......... I gotta be honest.. I HATE that frickin hawk/bird on his chest that was introduced in the animated cartoons. It looks like a mockery of what Nightwing's costume was in the comics. Even in the horrendous Batman & Robin movie, it was mocked then too. It just looks horrible and completely turns me off.

I've always prefered Nightwing's outfit in his first books drawn by McDaniel, myself ;)
