As the AFC Championship Game between the 5x World Champion New England Patriots and the Jacksonville Jaguars continues, Warner Bros. has released an awesome new TV spot for their upcoming video game movie adaptation/reboot of Tomb Raider. The film stars Alicia Vikander as the daredevil extraordinaire Lara Croft, who finds herself on the adventure of a lifetime, searching for the truth behind her father's disappearance.

On another note, it looks like Angelina Jolie's Lara Croft: Tomb Raider and Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life are both getting the 4K Ultra HD treatment ahead of the new film's release. Both titles are due out on February 27th and are currently available to pre-order on Amazon (1, 2).

Watch the new "Adventure" TV spot below:

Lara Croft is the fiercely independent daughter of an eccentric adventurer who vanished when she was scarcely a teen. Now a young woman of 21 without any real focus or purpose, Lara navigates the chaotic streets of trendy East London as a bike courier, barely making the rent, and takes college courses, rarely making it to class. Determined to forge her own path, she refuses to take the reins of her father’s global empire just as staunchly as she rejects the idea that he’s truly gone.

Advised to face the facts and move forward after seven years without him, even Lara can’t understand what drives her to finally solve the puzzle of his mysterious death.Going explicitly against his final wishes, she leaves everything she knows behind in search of her dad’s last-known destination: a fabled tomb on a mythical island that might be somewhere off the coast of Japan. But her mission will not be an easy one; just reaching the island will be extremely treacherous. Suddenly, the stakes couldn’t be higher for Lara, who—against the odds and armed with only her sharp mind, blind faith and inherently stubborn spirit—must learn to push herself beyond her limits as she journeys into the unknown. If she survives this perilous adventure, it could be the making of her, earning her the name tomb raider.

Tomb Raider features:
Director: Roar Uthaug
Alicia Vikander as Lara Croft
Walton Goggins as Mathias Vogel
Daniel Wu as Lu Ren
Dominic West as Lord Richard Croft
Hannah John-Kamen as Sophie
Antonio Aakeel as Nitin
Kristin Scott Thomas as Ana Miller

Tomb Raider rappels into theaters March 16

Eh, it doesn't look great. Kind of like a nerfed version of the video game.

The whole idea of Lara Croft in that game was the idea she was barely surviving, it was kind of like Die Hard mixed with Tomb Raider - she was constantly injured or subjected to terrible conditions. As such it made you more invested with her character - when we see a character go through strife we kind of root for them to succeed.

In the game during the ship scene, she is out of her depth, almost drowns and almost gets impaled trying to do a hero jump from one side of the broken ship to the other which results in the unwanted aspect of her falling into the ocean

In the movie during the ship scene, she seems to know exactly what to do and intentionally jumps from the ship into the water.

@Scarilian - I've never played the game but I did watch that trailer when it came out and I was thinking this too. That aspect could make for a very interesting action film. I would like to see some of that in the movie.

@BlindWedjat -

Same, would have been great seeing her deal with actually surviving in the wilderness. I dont think we've seen someone actually in a position of peril surviving in a forest/island for quite a while, at least not in an established franchise.

The 2013 Game is pretty great, though a bit of backtracking in order to unlock quests. I got most the way through it before losing interest, stealth segments were probably my favorite part especially when you get the bow - but that was primarily as i was trying to do a 100% completion and going back to unlock different aspects was tedious.

@Scarilian - Good point. I could see that being an issue, having her be over-competent (ala Rey). Hopefully the break her down in the first half of the movie though. Loved the game, I haven't played the sequel yet but I need to.

You know what? The second trailer for this changed my mind about this film. It looks like it could be decent fun, though it seems to have this problem of having these one-liners that are just made for trailers. Then again, maybe those lines are for the trailers only. Alicia Vikander is a great actress and I'd love to see what she brings to the role

Maybe it was just the song choice I liked with the second trailer anyway lol.

Why are the trailers making it seem like her father's sending her off on this quest but the synopsis say she does it against his final wishes?
