Fans seemed pretty happy with most of the character designs for the various heroic and villainous warriors of Mortal Kombat when the first trailer debuted last week, but many took issue with the depiction of Sisi Stringer's Mileena.
Mileena was originally introduced as the evil twin sister of Kitana in Mortal Kombat II, but it was later revealed that she was a part-Tarkatan genetic clone of the princess, with her animalistic (not to mention cannibalistic) side becoming a more prominent feature over the years.
While the character was shown licking blood from her sai with a somewhat gruesome jaw and pointed teeth in the trailer, fans were a little disappointed with her overall look. However, it sounds like Mileena may undergo a more monstrous transformation in the movie.
Producer Todd Garner responded to a fan's Tweet, suggesting that there's more to the ferocious fighter than what we saw in the teaser.
It's not much to go on, but it does seem to hint that Mileena will ultimately sport a more video game-accurate look.
In “Mortal Kombat,” MMA fighter Cole Young, accustomed to taking a beating for money, is unaware of his heritage—or why Outworld's Emperor Shang Tsung has sent his best warrior, Sub-Zero, an otherworldly Cryomancer, to hunt Cole down. Fearing for his family's safety, Cole goes in search of Sonya Blade at the direction of Jax, a Special Forces Major who bears the same strange dragon marking Cole was born with. Soon, he finds himself at the temple of Lord Raiden, an Elder God and the protector of Earthrealm, who grants sanctuary to those who bear the mark. Here, Cole trains with experienced warriors Liu Kang, Kung Lao and rogue mercenary Kano, as he prepares to stand with Earth’s greatest champions against the enemies of Outworld in a high stakes battle for the universe. But will Cole be pushed hard enough to unlock his arcana—the immense power from within his soul—in time to save not only his family, but to stop Outworld once and for all?
Mortal Kombat is set for a simultaneous release in theaters and on HBO Max this April 12.
