WONDER WOMAN 1984 Looks Set For January PVOD Release On Sky In The UK

Wonder Woman 1984 will release in theatres and on HBO Max simultaneously on Christmas Day in the United States, but the DC Comics sequel is set for a theatrical run in the UK and Ireland on December 16.

With the streaming service unavailable overseas and many people still wary about braving cinemas in the midst of a pandemic, fans outside of the US have been wondering what the plan is for a VOD release in international markets, and Variety has now shared an update.

According to the trade, the plan is for WW84 to play in cinemas in the U.K. for just one month before (potentially) getting a premium video-on-demand release on Sky. It seems the finer details are still being worked out as the deal between Warner Bros. and Comcast-backed pay-TV operator Sky is not yet complete, but discussions are said to be in advanced stages.

“What we’re doing on the basis of trying to help out the studios and our partners is to look at an emergency COVID window which is just the maximum amount of flexibility to get movies onto screens,” said a senior source close to U.K. discussions, who assures the Wonder Woman 1984 scenario “isn’t setting up a precedent for the future, but acknowledging that we’re finding ways of working together.”

We should get a clearer picture of the plan once things are finalized, so keep an eye out for updates. In the meantime, be sure to let us know if you plan in checking out WW84 in theatres, or would rather watch at home.

@NinnesMBC - they most definitely are! It's this site. Many here are CGI experts. Watch trailer reactions on YouTube... very few complaints about the cgi... in fact, quite the opposite!

My country appears that it will begin this month to test whether it is safe to finally re-open movie theaters so there is that. Personally I might only go to buy some popcorn for myself to take home with me. :P I'll wait further before returning to the cinema.
