Recent reports indicated that director Patty Jenkins "walked away" from Wonder Woman 3 after rejecting Warner Bros.' ideas, but the filmmaker has now shared a different version of what transpired...

Wonder Woman and WW84 director Patty Jenkins has released a statement in response to the recent report that she was the one who walked away from the planned threequel, and she paints a slightly different picture of what went down.

THR claimed (though other sites did publish similar reports) that it was Jenkins who decided to pass on helming the project after "receiving notes on the treatment she submitted to the studio." It was said that WB higher-ups weren't completely sold on her pitch, which contained "character arc problems which rivaled that of Wonder Woman 1984."

Jenkins was reportedly given the opportunity for another pass, but opted to walk, and made it clear that she had no interest in listening to new DC Studios co-heads James Gunn and Peter Safran's ideas.

However, Jenkins has now denied that she was the one to leave the film, adding that she "was open to considering anything asked of" her, but "it was my understanding there was nothing I could do to move anything forward at this time."

Jenkins also updated on Rogue Squadron, and it sounds like the Star Wars movie is still in-development - although she doesn't know whether it will ultimately happen.

You can check out her response in full below.

From what we can gather, Gal Gadot is still attached to the role of Diana, so we might well see a third Wonder Woman movie with a different director behind the camera down the line.

@dracula - I don't really agree.

@dracula - I don't think WW84's performance has anything to do with it. I think it's more to do with Gunn & Safran completely reworking the DCU. Any storyline or script for WW3 would've been tied to what's come before and that would make no sense carrying forward with whatever the new DCU will look like.

Predictable. I said this the other day: scoopers are predictable. They were always going to report some half truth negative assessment. Usually, where there's smoke, there's fire, so I don't think all of it is inaccurate, but I'm sure a lot of it is for clicks.

So basically, the project is dead rn, but she never actually walked away from it, or refused to do anything in particular, allegedly....

The 2nd WW movie was beyond horrible. She got sacked.

What is the question here?

@DocSpock - the question is why do you opt to make up convenient facts when someone who would actually know offers you a truth?

How I imagine WB creative rooms being like:
99OPTIMISTPRIME
99OPTIMISTPRIME - 12/13/2022, 8:48 PM
It sounds VERY similar to what happened with Tim Burton, after Batman Returns failed expectations. Burton went from full creative control, to being pushed out. WW84 diminished the power and goodwill Patty had earned. With James Gunn being a director, I'm a little surprised he didn't try harder to make it work with Patty. But they no doubt had creative differences.

@99OPTIMISTPRIME - Burton was still allowed to approve the new director, writers, and the general story of the movie. He also got first billing in the credits and opening.

@Th3Batman - ??!
Burton has said a few times in the past that he had nothing to do with “Batman Forever”.

@madhombre - Both the director and two writers said he needed to approve them and their ideas first before getting the job. His name is also the first thing you see on screen. He probably didn't like the final product so he's trying to distance himself from it.

@Th3Batman -

"Both the director and two writers said he needed to approve them and their ideas first before getting the job."

You've misunderstood what they actually said and speculated wildly and inaccurately as a result.

Firstly, Joel Schumacher said he wanted Burton's approval as a fellow filmmaker. Nothing to do with any potential directors NEEDING Burton's approval. It was a courtesy and sign of respect.

Secondly, the "two writers" were the Bachelors. Of course, they needed Burton's approval. They were hired when Burton had plans to direct. It was after Burton left that Schumacher ditched them and hired Akiva Goldsman.

The post-Burton team had a number of edicts from WB as a result of the Burton/Bachelor draft, including only featuring Batman in complete costume as a consequence of the studio's disgust with one scene in that draft.

Burton has fired/asked to leave.

"His name is also the first thing you see on screen."

This is the most naive comment of all. This was about MONEY. Credits relate to fees and residuals. Burton's agent likely negotiated these credits well in advance, regardless of his thoughts on the script.

https://www.batman-online.com/features/2011/9/3/interview-with-batman-forever-screenwriter-janet-scott-batchler

"The truth is that Burton was only around to approve his creative successors. After approving Joel Schumacher to take over as the director, Burton met with the Batchlers, who agreed with him that "the key element to Batman is his duality. And it's not just that Batman is Bruce Wayne. All the villains also have secret identities. Superman may be Clark Kent, but Lois Lane is always Lois Lane and Lex Luthor is always Lex Luthor. When we said that, Tim just kinda went, 'Yes!' And at that point, we pretty much had the job.Tim Burton would go on to make Ed Wood as the Batchlers began work with Joel Schumacher"

We may never know exactly how much creative control Burton and the Batchlers had on Batman Forever as a result of things not being as well documented as they are today, but all you have to do to know how much worse the movie would've been without them is look at Batman and Robin, which was exclusively made by Schumacher and Goldsman. Considering the night and day differences between the two movies, I'd say Burton and the Batchlers' influence on the movie was a lot bigger than Schumacher and Goldsman's.
