WONDER WOMAN Director Patty Jenkins Share Some Ideas For A Possible Sequel

Wonder Woman takes place in the dark days of World War I, but director Patty Jenkins has now weighed in on where she would like to take things if a sequel ends up happening somewhere down the line.

Wonder Woman is set to be released on June 2nd, but what's next for the iconic DC Comics superhero? For now, we know that she'll return in Justice League this November, but beyond that, her future is a mystery. Should this first solo outing be a success, a sequel is obviously a guarantee and director Patty Jenkins already has some ideas for where she plans on taking sequels starring the Amazon warrior.

"I’m excited for her to come to America and become the Wonder Woman we are all familiar with from having grown up around her as an American superhero," Jenkins told the Toronto Sun in a recent interview after being quizzed about the future of the franchise. "I’d like to bring her a little farther along into the future and have a fun, exciting storyline that is its own thing. Wonder Woman 1 is so much about her becoming the person she is. I can’t wait to spring forward with who she is and have another great standalone superhero film." That sounds like a great direction to take things in.

It's obviously always good to get the origin story out of the way and asked to elaborate on why it was important to address that here, Jenkins added: "I always thought the origin story would be the great way to go. I love origin superhero stories and I love the simplicity you can have with that journey. Also, there was the fact that no one had done her story and the fact that I love her. So it was a treasure trove of potential." As always, let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.

I love superhero origin movies too. Sequels just don't work as well or mean as much without a great origin to begin with.

@TheUnworthyThor - Most people dislike origin stories, but I'm with you I love them.
Maybe it's because they have the most character development, idk

On the subject of superhero origins I don't know why I never really thought of this before but like 26 years ago I bought issue 98 of New Mutants and it's been bagged, boarded and sitting in a box since the 90's, it's probably worth a little something now isn't it? In fact it might be the most valuable comic I own now, I should probably pull it out and keep it with my other more valuable comics.

Origin stories are...you know, like...a "must have" for a superhero, we're talking about bread and butter here, i really don't get why some ppl hate it so much, but whatever.

And i kinda dig the fact of MOS 2 and WW 2 being so damn different from their first movies.
Something outside of the box, i don't think they planned it, it just happened and it's fortunate.
Well...at least when we'll see MOS 2 and WW 2 that is...
And unlike what @Coleco says, those movies WILL happen, especialy MOS 2! >:(

@Doomsday8888 - some people find origin stories boring and formulaic, i seem to love them.

Batman begins is great but a lot of people don't like it because it isn't heavy on the action.

@MonsieurClunge -
Well they DO have to follow a certain formula, it can't be helped.
But you have to know how to differentiate em, otherwise you end up with Ant-Man and Dr.Strange as a pseudo-copy or IM.
Now, you may still like those movies, but you can't blame ppl if they point that out.
Still, i think origin stories are very important.

@Doomsday8888 - I think people are crazy for complaining about origin movies, like I know a lot of us are big time comic book readers and know these origins by heart, and we could maybe get by without them, but that's hardly true for most people. And even for us they are an integral part of the character and understanding them.

And yeah I know some of them can be similar, but let's be real, there are only about five different superhero origins with just a few cosmetic differences.

@Doomsday8888 - yeah i agree.

@Doomsday8888 - There are certainly some strong similarities between IM and DS, but Ant-Man is doing it's own thing.

I can understand why some people wouldn't like Ant-Man, but it isn't the arrogant guy learns lesson in humility in the process of becoming a hero story that the other two were.

@MyBeard -
Not that detail maybe, but still...

@Doomsday8888 - I see the humor here, it's funny and all, but we aren't talking about a detail.

Ant-Man was about Scott's journey, not Hank's, so the joke about the similarity to the corporate take over story of Iron Man, while humorous, doesn't really apply.

Moreover, you might argue that Ant-Man never quite pulled it off, but Iron Man was never even attempting to be a heist film.

Most importantly though, Iron Man and Dr. Strange overcoming arrogance as a character flaw is the central point of their stories. That just isn't present in Ant-Man, and that isn't a detail, it's crucial.

A detail is more like: Having tasted humility, Tony realizes how dangerous his tech is, while having also been served some humble pie, Steven now knows he can save lives without being the most celebrated surgeon in his field. Some would even argue that this difference is more than just a detail, but I am not interested in going down that road.

In the end, I am less concerned that some of these hero origins are similar, even very much so, than that they capture the most important part of the character's back story with a reasonable degree of quality and comic accuracy. A lot of this can be chalked up to a lack of originality in the source material (like Spidey's similar lesson in humility). This version of Ant-Man though, is different enough to not be lumped into this category.

She knows her stuff, part of the reason im worried for justice league is because the charectors dont have origins, making me care less about.Hopefully charector devlopment will save that.

@AngryBillCipher - That makes no sense. Men's every non-sequel movie ever sucked because they didn't have a movie before it

Even if the first one ends up being terrible I'd be more up for a sequel than all the other shit DC's been pitching: A Deadshot movie? Dafuq? Sirens? Black Adam? Nightwing? All unnecessary cash grabs.

@xAdam - I respect them for giving smaller charectors there due, but the wrong charectors.

No birds of prey? elastic man? blue beetle? doom patrol?

feels very souless
