Bryan Singer Teases Return Of Scott And Jean In X-MEN: DOFP; Hints At Shared Fox Universe
X-Men: Days of Future Past director Bryan Singer hints at the return of Scott Summers (Cyclops) and Jean Grey (Phoenix) in the sequel and also shares his thoughts on the concept of creating a shared universe for 20th Century Fox's Marvel characters.
In an interview with IGN Movies, X-Men: Days of Future Past director Bryan Singer has talked more about his plans for the highly anticipated sequel to Matthew Vaughn's critically acclaimed X-Men: First Class. When the site put it to him that a lot of fans would like to see Scott and Jean return, he teased: "Who wouldn’t? Who wouldn’t? [Laughing] That’s all I can say. The good news is that we’re all on the same page!" Earlier in the interview, Singer once again emphasised his plans to fix a few of the less than popular decisions made in X-Men: The Last Stand, so it certainly sounds as if the door is wide open for the return of the two beloved characters.
"I think that if you really examine the X-Men universe it’s every bit as big as the Marvel universe," he said when talk turned to the concept of some sort of shared universe for 20th Century Fox's stable of Marvel superheroes. "There are lesser characters, but if you take certain characters there are a myriad of films you could make, and stories you could tell, with these characters as individuals." As for whether there has been any concrete talk of making this a reality, Singer added: "It’s just something we’re thinking about. Really my big focus was this movie. But we’re talking, [producer] Lauren Shuler Donner and I, and we’ll see."
