Fox CEO Wants Wyatt & Vaughn Back for Sequels to Rise of the Planet of the Apes & X-Men

20th Century Fox Chairman Tom Rothman says they're trying to get both directors back for the sequels to Rise of the Planet of the Apes & X-Men: First Class.

A funny thing happened this summer, FOX actually made not one, but two very good comic book related movies. The studio has a long history of making poorly conceived CBMs, with the last one, X-Men Origins: Wolverine, leaving an extremely bad taste in the mouths of most comic book fans. And you can't blame the CBM community for groaning every time Fox is attached to a comic book related entity, just look at the list of below average CBMs they've been associated with, like: Daredevil, Elektra, Fantastic Four, X-Men: The Last Stand, and Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer.

But all that has changed with the two refreshingly terrific films, Rise of the Planet of the Apes and X-Men: First Class. Two films that have been successes at the box office and with the critics. Two films that have revitalized lucrative franchises, and have re-energized the fan bases. And for that I salute 20 Century Fox and hope they keep up the good work. Maybe next time they announce another comic book film project you'll hear a 'Hell yah' instead of an 'Oh no'.

Excerpt from comingsoon.net interview with Tim Rothman, CEO of Filmed Entertainment
Rothman confirmed to us that they plan on continuing on from both movies and they're going to try to get both Rupert Wyatt and Matthew Vaughn back to direct once they get the scripts together. "Both of them were really great scripts and so we have to be sure to get great scripts again," Rothman said. "We're working hard on the scripts for both of them, but we have every hope of moving forward with them."

Well, I'll watch this X-Men sequel only 'cause of Fassbender. He was the only reason why the movie was good. I hope they'll modify his Magneto suit to a body-armor type suit. :)

But, I still don't have faith in FOX when they do a Marvel movie. Never did, never will.

I wonder if they'll keep the yellow and black suits for the sequel or they'll probably have new suits for them.

X-Men: First Class was absolutely terrible. I have no idea why so many people and critics praise that film. Just about everything is wrong with it, from the rushed, weak script to horrible character development, a silly plot-line that was borderline campy to the incredibly laughable script (dialogue especially): MUTANT AND PROUD!!! Give me a f*cking break.

Get Vaughn the hell out and get someone good!!

Cant wait for a whole First Class franchise (please)! Seriously, if Fox get their head out of their arses and dont repeat the mistakes of the past, they could do a brilliant First Class franchise set from the 70s to the 90s. Continue on with the current X-Men introduced for this trilogy (Banshee, Beast & Havok), add Polaris (as a love interest for Havok), Thunderbird, Sunfire and re-introduce Angel, Gambit, Psylocke. Use every other X-Man who wasnt in the first two movies.

Then for the second trilogy set in the 80s and 90s, have the X-Men of the original trilogy form with the introduction of Cyclops, Jean Grey, Storm, a younger Iceman & Colossus etc.

And people who still hold out hope for X4 are stupid, why do you want a sequel to a movie that is technically out of continuity (X3). Plus you would have to recast the entire thing now because the actors are getting too old for their roles. It wouldnt make any sense

First Class all the way. 5 more movies, then let the franchise rest

@MovieTheatreLad
Why do they need to wait until the 80s to introduce Gambit? Its pretty obvious that Wolverine & X3 are completely out of continuity now no matter how much you try to make it work. The only movies in canon now (IMO at least) is X1, X2 & First Class. The rest can thankfully be forgotten. The one problem is trying to explain that to the general public

@SuspenseSmith
I was taking your opinion seriously until you said Wolverine was good. That was the most terrible movie I ever seen and most people would agree with me, and Im not even talking about comic book fans, my 2 friends who have pretty good taste in movies and arent even close to being comic fans HATED Wolverine. Wolverine was a terrible movie with a pointless cliched plot, terrible acting and characters and most people just had a feeling at the end of why the hell did I go see this crap.

I will agree First Class is a bit overhyped but I still enjoyed it a hell of a lot more than the shit on my shoe that was Wolverine. The only two good things it had going for it was the awesome portrayals of Wolverine & Sabretooth

Comicbookmovie fans are such sheep. Rothman is the reason X3 was rushed into production without Singer and he forced the director of X-Men Origins: Wolverine to make all those drastic changes that ultimately ruined the movie.

But of course, you guys will accept whatever they dole out to you...

... and no, First Class was not a good X-Men movie. Wake up, people.

PLANET OF THE APES WAS AWESOME, I COULD WATCH MANY MORE IF THEY KEEP THE STORY THAT STRONG..X-MEN FIRST CLASS WAS GOOD, I HONESTLY WISH THEY WOULDVE JUST WENT TO X-4..THE MAIN THING THAT PISSES ME OFF ABOUT THE XMEN MOVIES IS THE DAMN CONTINUITY, AND THE BAD PART IS THEY KNOW THE CONTINUITY IS MARRED UP BUT THEY DON'T WANT TO JUST SAY"OK LET'S JUST CLEAN UP THE CONTINUITY AND DO RIGHT BY THE SOURCE MATERIAL AND THE FANS..DON'T GET ME WRONG, XMEN 1ST CLASS WAS GOOD, BUT THE CONTINUITY...

the new "Apes" movie did the impossible for me, get interested in the old movie series.

Maybe it´s like the new "Star Trek" raised interest in the previous Star Trek movies and TV series.

What killed Wolverine for me was the sound effects.

I like it loud, but that movie was so loaded of screeching metal that made my teeth ache. <:(

I still can't believe that people actually liked X-Men: First Class. The scene where they pick out their names is one of the cheesiest scenes in comic book movie history. I'd almost put it up there with the dancing scene in Spider-Man 3. Almost.

You mean Tom Rothman finally made an intelligent, rational decision....? That *is* news.

Glad to hear Vaughn and Wyatt are being asked to come back. Hope it works out....should be great sequels for both films if they do.

First Class and Rise of the Planet of the Apes were the movies that by far surprised me the most positive this year. I had little to no expectations going in, but they were great!

And although I had lots of gripes with FC I found it too damn entertaining to not like, and Fassbender and MacAvoy were just too damn good, as was Bacon!

Gimme more!
