More From Bryan Singer On X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST; "It Has A Lot Of Aspects Of The Comic"

Following his comments on time travel (scroll a little further down the front page for that), X-Men: Days of Future Past director Bryan Singer now discusses how closely the movie will stick to the comic books, which past X-movies it takes an influence from and promises more swearing from Hugh Jackman!

"It has a lot of aspects of the comic," teased X-Men: Days of Future Past director Bryan Singer in a recent interview with Empire Online. However, he was quick to point out that that doesn't necessarily mean fans should expect a direct adaptation of the beloved storyline! "The actual comic of Days Of Future Past had a whole ton of stuff going on, so it’s like any of these things; you have to distill it. But I think the fans will be pleased that some of the most exciting parts of Days Of Future Past are going to be connected to this movie."

Many of those same comic book fans would surely be happier if the prequel/sequel skipped over duds like X-Men: The Last Stand and X-Men Origins: Wolverine, but that WON'T be the case. "I’m taking into account every movie – I’m not just grabbing my first two movies and First Class and smashing them together. I’m taking into account the entire universe as it’s been laid out so far on the screen, and really respecting it and trying to work with that. People took things in various directions, so there’s some clean-up," he confessed. "But ultimately I’m not just ignoring them either."

"I’ll be using Twitter as an avenue," Singer added when asked about his decision to share casting details with his followers on the social media website. "I think Twitter is an amazing thing. Very often something gets out there in the rumour-sphere, and people start building up an impression of something that might not be right. So what I want to do is just little by little drop out whatever information is official." Finally, we know that Wolverine will return, but will his potty mouth? (as seen in X-Men: First Class) ""We’re going to have another one in this one. We have another one coming up!"

I think NOT skipping over or erasing X-Men: The Last Stand, is going to come back & kick them in the ass later on. Hmmm, still don't know how I feel about this movie though.

SN: I wonder if we will see the grave site of the F4 since this is a "shared" universe now?

With XM 1st Class, the X-Men continuity was chucked out the window so I don't see how this will make the sequel any better. If anything it probably will confuse the heck out of everyone.

Considering that the director and producer of First Class said that the prior film universes had nothing to do with First Class (even though they threw in a couple cameos to appease the fans), he has lots of fixing to do.

You can throw in aspects of the comic, but at the same time make that meaningless by everything else you choose to throw in.

I don't know, I like what he is saying so far. Maybe the guy realizes this is a huge scale universe that could set him up with movies for life if he handles them well? He has to see the Marvel money and it's starting to click that when done right, these things can be huge. Now just announce the return of Kelsey Grammar as Beast and I'm all in!

How does this work then? In making First Class, Matthew Vaughn ignored Origins: Wolverine and The Last Stand, so how can a sequel to that film reinstate those two to continuity? I know there's the time travel stuff, but that'd only work if they traveled to before First Class and showed them changing the continuity of the original trilogy to become First Class, which would be pointless anyway - it should've been done then, not now. Might as well just pretend the two worst films didn't happen. Better yet, they could've just treated First Class as a reboot.

I don't understand why someone new can't come in and do a fresh take on the whole x-men universe. How many Batman reiterations have their been? How many Superman reiterations? Hell, we even have a new Spider-man universe. Somebody needs to tell Hugh Jackman to leave Wolverine alone and for Bryan Singer to piss off and go find another franchise to ruin.

One of the most exciting parts of the DoFP comic was when Wolverine got roasted down to a skeleton and killed by a Sentinel, so I hope we get to see that on the big screen!

I don't see how DOFP is going to crossover into the other X-Men movies.Unless it's only going to crossover with Singer's movies and ignore Origins and The Last Stand. This X-Men movie series is a mind (frick).

@LEVITIKUZ You want bishop in days of future past? He wasn't even created until 10 years after days of future past was published. And adding bishop to a film with already a lot of characters in what will probably be a complicated plot isn't a smart move.

Also, since the F4 reboot is going to share the same universe as X-Men, is the reboot going to be an origin film or the early years of F4? Because Franklin Richards name pops up in X2, so how are they going to explain that?

I'm not the biggest fan of Singer's X-men movies but i am a big X-men comic book fan but maybe after Singer seeing what happens when you bring a superhero team to screen and it makes billions and the Avengers were not saleing as much as the X-men in comics he has realized the potential the X-men has I will give it a try one more time but if this movie is anything like or less then the others I am done with x-men until marvel gets the rights back

If theyre keeping the original sequel concept of Kennedy's assassination.....and Singer meaning the cast of characters from all movies. i could see the brotherhood consisting of Magneto, White Queen, Mystique, Blob, Toad, Sabretooth, Azazel trying to assassinate him. Which causes the future timeline to go into chaos.

First Class:- Havok, Banshee, Beast.....maybe Cyclops and Jean. And heres hoping Bishop.

The Future X-men:- Cyclops, Jean, Wolverine, Iceman, Rogue, Shadowcat, Nightcrawler, Angel, Colossus, Beast, Gambit, Professor X, Banshee.......all die except Wolverine and Shadowcat

@jollem I agree TMNT is a good blueprint so is the Avengers you know what those movies have in common that the X-men movies are lacking TEAM. TMNT & Avengers allowed each one of there heros share the spotlight and not be supporting cast unlike all the X-men movies bc even in X-Men FC it was all about Magneto
