Taylor Kitsch On Reprising GAMBIT & Channing Tatum's Interest In The Role

Kitsch played the Cajun mutant in the not exactly well received X-Men Origins: Wolverine, and while speaking to the Chicago Tribune he suggests that he might not be ready to hand over the playing cards to Channing Tatum just yet! Read on for more.

A while back, Magic Mike actor Channing Tatum threw his hat in the ring to take over the role of Gambit from Taylor Kitsch should the card-flinging mutant ever grace the screen again. Then more recently, X-Men producer Lauren Shuler Donner said that she'd love to get a Gambit movie up and running with Tatum in the title role. But what if the opportunity arose for Kitsch to play the character again? “I would under the right circumstances,” the actor told the Chicago Tribune while promoting Lone Survivor Foundation’s Concert for a Cause. “But if (Tatum) does it, good on him. He’ll kill it. It’s such a cool character. Whoever plays him will be a lucky guy. It is what is it, I’m not going to be like ‘Oh my God, why don’t I get to play him?’ If it’s meant to be, it’s meant to be. And if not, I’ll move on. If they cast (Tatum), I wish him nothing but the best. I hope he kicks the (crap) out of it.”. To be fair, Kitsch never really got much of a chance to show what he could do with such an underwritten take on Gambit, so I'd be okay with seeing him have another stab at it somewhere down the line. What about you guys? Would you mind Kitsch returning or would you prefer Tatum?

Didn't he say he was done playing Gambit a couple years ago? I guess that was before John Carter tanked.

I personally would like to see him come back. Just for some kind of continuity. Also he does a good job in the Lone Survivor for the parts he is in there.

I started watching X-Men TAS the other day with my friend. We were saying how bad ass would it be 2 c Omega Red on screen! With that said we both realized Fox-Men would give us a watered down version.I mean Rogue,Storm,Cyclops.Watching those episodes made me hate Fox-Men even more.Oh well.Least I can still watch those episodes. XD

I'm not opposed to Tatum playing Gambit, but I don't want Kitsch back. He's never done anything to impress me.

The Cajun accent lasted for like 7 seconds and then was gone. What a let down.

I thought he was well cast as Gambit, personally. Josh Holloway would have been perfect (around the Lost Season One era), but Kitsch was second best, I thought. Tatum? I really cannot see it. Nothing against Tatum, I loved him in 21 Jump Street, but he would be one of the last guys I would think of to play Gambit. Really not the type.
Kitsch should be Casey Jones in TMNT 2, though.
I mean, whether or not the first movie's good, it's bound to get a sequel, right. And a bit of Casey Jones would go a long way to improving the quality of the franchise. And Kitsch would be the man to play him.

Kitsch was okay. I'd be ecstatic to see him. However, [frick] Tatum. Tie his leg to the comedy movie realm and never let him loose. He does not belong anywhere else.

Kitsch was alright as Gambit.

Fix the accent, get a damn haircut, and bring him back.

Tatum is horrible.

No to both actors. An okay choice for Gambit leading a solo movie isn't good enough. The character deserves better than just an okay solo movie.

Matt Bomer is the perfect choice for Gambit. He has the looks, charm, and practically plays Remy on White Collar.

Between Kitsch and Tatum, I could go either way, but I'd give Kitsch the option. It wasn't his fault that Origins: Wolverine didn't work out (or John Carter).

Honestly, though, neither of them really fit my comics/animation-based image of Gambit. The Cajun accent angle is not the only thing that matters. Someone more catlike and lithe seems warranted, with more of a real vibe.

I'd rather see Kitsch come back or have Josh Holloway take on the role. I'm not a big Channing Tatum fan. He always sounds like he's trying to be black.

I think Taylor was good as Gambit. He just had a shit script. If that had a good script the movie would be awesome.

People need to stop saying Channing is Cajun. He's so not, far from it. I could dig Taylor in the role again, but seeing another actor devoted to Gambit wouldn't hurt either.

He was pretty fine in the movie, he just had a small role and not the best material to make Gambit shine. But his action scenes were B A D A S S, even better than most of the other X-Men on the trilogy.

So he deserves a second chance and with the whole X-Mean team. To see Gambit fighting along with Cyclops, Rogue and Wolverine would be Epic

The only problem with John Carter was promotion. That stupid C who chose to take out Mars from the title and try to attract more audience did everything wrong and less people watched it. It is bye not a flop, just as PacRim It didn't get a lot extra to make sequel and it is Damn Shame. It was good Sci-fi adventure and one of the last decent Disney films (Marvel not included).

John Carter was good!
He should keep play Gambit, but he was introduced at the wrong time but as a first class sequel he could work fine or someone younger not Tatum(even if I don't mind) or Taylor or younger guy. Chronos actually cries right now over Faqed continuity of X films!
TheFox
TheFox - 2/10/2014, 12:24 PM
You know, I actually LIKED Kitsch's portrayal of Gambit in X-Men Origins: Wolverine. In fact, I loved a LOT of the actors they got for that movie. Liev Schrieber was an utterly FANTASTIC Sabertooth, and Ryan Reynolds is pretty much the only guy who could ever play Deadpool (yet another reason why I hope they get that stalled Deadpool movie off the ground a.s.a.p.)!

The problem with Origins wasn't the casting (in most cases... Will.i.am was pretty weak), it was the script and the director. The producers somehow turned the Weapon X story into an X-Men prequel by cramming every single major character we HADN'T seen in the first three movies into that one (even though most of them were basically glorified cameos), and the director had approximately ZERO skill with actors or special effects. Origins was basically the Batman & Robin of the X-Men films.

But the cool thing about Fox's decision NOT to just retcon the whole mess into oblivion and start the X-Men franchise from ground zero is that it affords the things that could have worked a chance to do so again. And while Days of Future Past is only set in the early seventies (after leaping forward from First Class's 1962 setting), X-Men: Apocalypse is supposedly going to make a similar jump forward in time... which, if it ends up any time after 1979 (the year of the Three Mile Island incident that Origins made into its climax), means that Gambit can show up in the next X-Men movie without screwing up the timelines.

And really, I want to see Gambit return to the X-Men movie universe. He had virtually nothing to do in his first appearance, but Gambit still managed to make SOME impression, and Kitsch gave him just enough of a hint of personality that I think they could develop him into a solid character in another film.

So yeah-- bring back Gambit! If X-Men Apocalypse features the First Class roster plus Gambit and NO Wolverine, then hell, it could really turn into something special!

Oh, and keep Channing Tatum away from Gambit. He's a meat-headed jock type-- he's not even CLOSE to what the role needs.

We need Gambit to join the adult team! you know, Gambit belongs to the adult X-Men, Cyclops, Wolverine, Storm, and Rogue! damm, fans have been waiting a whole decade for it! its too much time! no more excuses, Gambit and Rogue has to meet finally!

I liked Kitsch as Gambit. What I didn't like was that they introduced him in what was supposed to be prequel instead of a sequel. So that means he'd be a lot older than the other guys by the time X2 or The Last Stand came around.
