THE WOLVERINE Grosses $4M In Thursday Night Showings; New Promo Banner Released

20th Century Fox's The Wolverine is well on its way to earning at least $65-70M in its opening weekend, with the Hugh Jackman-starrer grossing $4 million at Thursday night showings. We also have a new promo banner for the film.

One of the final summer blockbusters of the year, The Wolverine, finally opened late last night. The latest Marvel Comics adaptation from 20th Century Fox, which sees Hugh Jackman return to the role of the most popular X-Man, was predicted earlier this week to gross $75-80M in its opening weekend, but is now on course for a lower (but still solid) $65-70M debut. The James Mangold-directed Japanese-set installment earned a strong $4M in Thursday night showings starting at 10 PM. The Wolverine (which has a budget of $120M or less) is expected to do even better overseas, and is available in multiple locations now. Reviews have been decent, with a 67% rating on Rotten Tomatoes (based on 129 reviews). For comparison, 2009's X-Men Origins: Wolverine earned a mere 38% on the site based on 252 reviews, and grossed $373M worldwide after a $5M midnight debut and $85M opening weekend. Do you plan on seeing The Wolverine this weekend?

It was great! Better than I was expecting. I really didn't like the third act. They are right about that. 3.5 or 4/5

I feel violated. -Wolverine

the movie was ok, and I agree w/ @exrolo2 in regards to its place in the X-series.
you have to overlook a lot of the liberies Fux took with it though.

still nowhere near as bad as IM3.

waaaaaaaaay better than wolvie origins.

Awesome movie. I do hope at one point we get to see Wolvie in his classic suit. We can definitely have a sequel to this movie. I want Daken in it. I don't know how far down the line they can do it though.

This movie deserves every penny it gets. It was very well done and entertaining.

A shame that Origins left such a bad taste in people's mouths to the point of not wanting to give it a chance.

While it does have some small issues like the romance being somewhat cheesy with the constant glances and some small things that aren't as well explained as they could be, The Wolverine is a very down to earth film that offers us a great look at who Wolverine is, whats it like to be him and how he can find purpose in a life full of tragedy and constant struggle. The action scenes are expertly shot and the fighting choreography is among the best Ive seen all year, all the performances are great with Hugh Jackman's Wolverine being the one that really steals the show and all around its a great film held back by its small problems.

B+ for me but definitely getting a badass seal of approval for being the Wolverine movie we've all been waiting for.

"While it does have some small issues like the romance being somewhat cheesy"

well, to be fair, what romance in movies (specially comic book movies) ISN'T cheesy? :P
ekrolo2
ekrolo2 - 7/26/2013, 10:15 AM
@Spidey91

Its not that the romance was cheesy it was actually pretty damn good and legit in my opinion, but it had the cliché of LETS CONSTANTLY GLANCE AT EACH OTHER TO SHOW WERE GONNA ROMANCE type of a thing which is fine if you use it sparingly but it was used way too much and felt forced.

Favorite X-Men film.I have to say a hardcore PG-13 movie SPOILERS.The part when wolvie survives the atomic bomb knocked me back.People in the cinema were gasping and some screaming when he took that bug thing of his heart.5/5 for me.

That scene where wolverine's burned to sh*t. My jaw dropped. That was awesome.

I thought that atomic bomb part was excellent as well, BlackSurge. Everyone was gasping in my theater too. I even loved (but felt really sad) at the part where Yoshida finally get's a chance to come up from the hole and see's what's happened to his homeland. He looked heartbroken and he acted it out so damn well.

ekrolo2 - 7/26/2013, 10:22 AM
@JohnLamb

And the scene where Wolverine put his hand in his torso and you actually see him shove it in there was pretty bad ass too. Another subtle one was where Wolverine is slowly approaching his Yakuza guy, the dude shoots Logan, Logan just looks at the bullet holes casually then slices the guys face xD

Movie was good, however the train sequence and final act(though the Silver Samurai fight was good) have "Hollywood" written all of them, especially the train sequence, they just didn't fit into the movie and were there for the sake of it and didn't fit in with the movie.

Also did anyone else notice that the ninja's on motorcyles fight scene in the snow that you see in the trailers wasn't in the movie. It was only Wolverine vs Harada, then Wolverine getting struck by multiple arrows before getting knocked out.
ekrolo2
ekrolo2 - 7/26/2013, 10:26 AM
@Ocelot

I actually really liked the train scene, sure it was over the top but the lack of music and the whizzing of the train as it went at 500 miles per hour and how Wolverine beat that first Yakuza guy were pretty awesome.

I did indeed notice how that part was cut, theres another part where hes stadning on top of a truck with a cuban cigar in his mouth then he blows the thing up.

Im guessing the extended R-rated cut will include those scenes.

Everyone, including me in my theater loved the train scene as well. It was Hollywood-ish, but there was no need NOT to have it either. My thinking is, why not? So long as it was done well, and it was. Even comical.
