Look I am a fan of Hugh Jackman. In fact he's practically how I and many other's see Wolverine as. Yeah sure he's a bit tall... But there are worst choices out there. And to show you how bad it could have been I've brought to you a group of choices that some Coked up Exec might stumbled to if Hugh Jackman wasn't cast...

Johnny Depp (Height: 5' 10", Age: 31 {As of 2000}, Big Movie: Edward Scissorhands): Small guy, lots of talent, and a loyal and large fanbase. He'd bring in Big cash.

Tom Cruise (Height: 5' 7", Age: 38 {As of 2000}, Big Movies: Top Gun, Mission: Impossible): he's a leading man and can carry a supporting cast and "act" decently. and he's short.

Mickey Rourke (Height: 5' 11", Age: 48 {As of 2000}, Big Movies: F.T.W., Bullet): He's gettin his crap together, so we can trust him again, he's a bit small and he could probably play a Wolverine fans like.

Christian Bale (Height: 6, Age: 26 {as of 2000}, Big Movie: American Psycho): does anybody play angry people better? Plus the guy has a lot of fans, and would be a great cashcow.

Colin Farrell (Height: 5' 10", Age: 24 {As of 2000}, Big Movie: Tigerland): He's a new guy and there's plenty of time for him to grow on people. he's an OK actor and is kinda short.

Look this is basically 5 Actors We could have expected Fox to want as Wolverine in the 2000 X-Men Movie. These are not people I want or would have wanted to see as wolverine. just me thinking like a studio exec and hopefully get a bit of slack off of Hugh's back so we can let him play Wolverine without whining about him being too tall or not Canadian. We really could have gotten worse as you can see.

Let's Hope "THE WOLVERINE" shows us the best performance out of Hugh that we have ever seen.

Hugh Jackman IS Wolverine. He's the perfect wolverine. Who cares if he doesn't have the fricking costume. Patrick Stewart, Sir Ian Mckellen, Hugh Jackman and Michael Fassbender are the strongest parts and best parts of the entire X-Men franchise. Reboot is not entirely needed, despite continuity issues.

I was upset when Dougray Scott had to turn down the role because M.I.2s production overran I think he would've nailed the part if he got time to bulk up. I saw some of his early films in the 90s also I was at the same college as him.

Downey's way too short to be playing Tony Stark yet I can't [frick]ing imagine anyone else owning that role like he does the dude is Tony Stark. Jackmans way too tall to play Wolverine yet I can't imagine any one else playing the role he is Wolverine to me. Watching Wolverine flipping the Claw at Cyclops in the first movie for 9 year old was mind blowing. So you won't see me complain. Dudes what RDJ is to Iron Man, Reeve was to Superman, he's up there with the best casting choices IMO.

Dont wanna speak too soon but cavil may take reeves place as the superman.
I also have a tough time accepting bale as batman. He was good but his action sequences were week. Wasn't believable that he could swoop in and take out a bunch of thugs.

Micky Rourke could have played wolverine. Jackman was good, but the movies were really awful, and he wasn´t as good as the voice actor who played him in the animated series. They need to change him, X-Men needs a whole new direction.

@Hulingout By action sequences I presume your talking about the hand to hand combat, I don't see how you can blame Bale for that you can blame Nolan for that definitely but an actor really thats a bit weird but hey what ever your opinion dude.

Jackman is wolverine. For as bad as X3 and Origins were hugh gives in such a great performance in both so much so that he makes the character that on paper is extremely bland seem great.

how do we know if he is wolverine, he is the only one that's played him so far. I personally would like a more aggressive person take a stab at it. Hugh looks great though, maybe its just the writing of the character for the movies that needs more aggression.

This is probably the dumbest article I have seen on this site in a long time. None of these actors were up for the role of Wolverine. You could do this with any movie. No offense but this article is a waste of space on this site.

Hugh Jackman has been great as Wolverine.

In the early 90's, my choice would have been Glenn Danzig.

The next actor playing him after Hugh? Tom Hardy or Jon Bernthal.

Jackman's Wolverine was great as a version of the character that would appeal to the cinema masses that was (as far as the studios thought) not ready for faithful comic adaptions. The bet lines Wolverine has ever had are the ones Joss Whedon wrote for him in the first film and he has been neutered ever since.

Jackman was a great surprise to me at the time and has been a loyal (well rewarded) servant ever since but I would have loved to have seen Edward Norton as Logan.

There were rumours at the time and when you've seen him in American History X you can sort of see how he would have pulled it off.

Right height too (ish).

Wasn't Danzig actually touted for it?

Jackman is not the reason that Wolverine hasnt been that good so far, his acting is superb in the X-Men movies. It's not Hugh's fault, it's the directors fault.

In fact, I cant think of anyone who's into acting right now that'd be better for the role.

@Niuhll

As a matter of fact he was, FOX invited him to try out for the role since they thought Danzigs' height and build closely resembled that of Wolverines from the comics, but he didnt take the role due to scheduling conflicts.

Lets not for forget other notable actors that were either considered , interested and actaully
Singers' first choice in the role of Wolverine, such as:

-Russell Crowe { Singers' first choice }
-Dougray Scott { who was cast but dropped out, making room for Jackman to take over }
-Keanu Reeves
-Edward Norton
-Aaron Eckhart
-Jean Claude Van Damme
-Viggo Mortensen
-Gary Sinise
and Bob Hoskins

No Joke :]

@Rob2814

I see what u mean about Jon Bernthal, this past seasons episode of The Walking Dead when Rick thought he saw Shane when he was attacking Woodbury, and he had that kind of Wolverine hairdo and beard going...Cant say seeing him as Logan didnt cross my mind at that very second :]

Odin - 3/26/2013, 3:11 AM
@BANE5000 I thought that Bob Hoskins was James Cameron's choice for Wolverine back at the 90's, when he was making X-men film. That film would've been interesting to see.

Roger Moore was James Bond.
And Moonraker STILL makes me smile.

Fun to watch - that's the big idea.
