JOHN WICK Prequel THE CONTINENTAL Finds Its Lead In FLIGHT ATTENDANT Breakout Colin Woodell & Casts Five More

Following that big casting news from earlier this week, Deadline is now reporting that Starz has found the lead star of The Continental in up-and-comer Colin Woodell (The Flight AttendantThe Originals), who will play a young Winston Scott in the upcoming three-part event series.

Hubert Point-Du Jour (The Good Lord BirdDr. Death), Jessica Allain (The Laundromat; Archenemy), Mishel Prada (Vida; Riverdale), Nhung Kate (The HousemaidBitcoin Heist), and Ben Robson (Animal Kingdom; The Boy) have all also been cast in major roles.

They all join 2x Academy Award-winner Mel Gibson (Lethal Weapon; Braveheart), who was previously cast as a mysterious character named Cormac.

As for their roles, Point-Du Jour will portray Miles, Allain will play Lou; Prada is KD, Nhung Kate portrays Yen and Robson is playing Frankie.

The series will serve as a prequel to Lionsgate's acclaimed John Wick action film franchise starring Keanu Reeves in the title role. Here's the official synopsis:

"The Continental will explore the origin behind the hotel-for-assassins, which increasingly has become the centerpiece of the John Wick universe. This will be accomplished through the eyes and actions of a young Winston Scott, who is dragged into the Hell-scape of a 1975 New York City to face a past he thought he’d left behind. Winston charts a deadly course through the New York’s mysterious underworld in a harrowing attempt to seize the iconic hotel, which serves as the meeting point for the world’s most dangerous criminals."

The project remains a relative mystery, but when we recently caught up with John Wick creator Derek Kolstad, he teased big things for the show and major developments that will hopefully only enhance what fans already love about the acclaimed action franchise.

John Wick: Chapter 4 is currently scheduled to open exclusively in theaters on May 27, 2022; where it's slated to open opposite Tom Cruise's long-awaited Top Gun: Maverick, which means one of the two - presumably the former - will end up shifting dates as we inch into 2022.

I'm usually hesitant about prequel shows, but them trying to get Mel atleast makes me think this is more then a cash grab. Hopefully as prequel shows go this is more Spartacus: Gods of the Arena and less Pennysworth.

With Gibson's involvement, it reminds me of his movie Payback.

What would have been really cool is if they would have bought the rights, connected to that, and duel set in the 70's and present day, with Milo playing younger Mel.

Eh.

Would have much rather seen Mel Gibson play the lead. They could have just done a different period without making it a prequel.

So a John Wick movie with no John Wick??
Going to need more than a bunch of actors I don’t care about to get me into this one.

@slickrickdesigns - if it has the same stunt team, I'm already happy. Reeves is a cool lead, but for its the fight choreography that kept the movies interesting after the first one

I'm usually not a big fan of franchises expanding and making countless spin-offs and prequels, but we'll see, I guess.

"The John Wick Universe"

Honestly really only liked the first one.

@PapaSpank54 - same. Reeves is cool in every movie, but other than that only the action really stood out. I guess if they keep the same level action, people will flock to it

@PapaSpank54 - I rewatched them with my dad since he hadn't seen any, and man, the third one is soooo dragged out. Plot is virtually redundant too. Peaked in the sequel for me

I remember him from The Originals and the Purge spin off series on USA. He's pretty good, happy for him.
