MAD MAX: FURY ROAD Director George Miller Says Two Sequels And A FURIOSA Movie Are Coming

We finally have some positive news regarding the long-delayed follow-ups to George Miller's masterful Mad Max: Fury Road, as the director has revealed that the legal battle with WB is coming to an end...

A sequel to Mad Max: Fury Road was looking less and less likely after an intense legal battle between Warner Bros. and George Miller's production company, but the veteran director has shared an update that's sure to make fans very happy indeed.

According to Miller, "the chaos has stabilized," and work can now get underway on not one, but two follow-ups to his action masterpiece.

"It was hard to get anyone’s attention, so we went to litigation," Miller explained to IndieWire when asked how the legal wranglings hindered progress on the sequels. "The chaos has stabilized and it’s become extremely positive as the dust seems to have settled after [the AT&T merger]."

Miller has previously talked about wanting to helm a pair of direct sequels to Fury Road and a Furiosa (Charlize Theron) spinoff, and it doesn't sound like plans have changed. "There are two stories, both involving Mad Max, and also a Furiosa story. We’re still solving, we’ve got to play out the Warners thing, it seems to be pretty clear that it’s going to happen."

So, as great as this news is, it's obviously going to be a while before we actually seen any movement on these projects. Still, it's comforting to know that we will ride historic on the Fury Road again in the future!

Best big budget film of the decade, maybe even the century.

@tmp3

Easily one of the best films of the decade imo

@regularmovieguy - Only big budget films this decade that I'd say were close to as good were Blade Runner 2049 and Mission Impossible Fallout, but even then I don't think they hit the highs that Fury Road ascends to.

@tmp3 - Story wise Blade Runner 2049 and MI are better because they tied all the films together. Mad Max was a new adventure and had a new actor, I would've preferred Mel Gibson coming back as Max because I grew up watching his 3 films. Fury Road is amazing but it's more of a Furiosa movie than Max so I was slightly disappointed by that too.

It was great seeing Miller's post apocalyptic world and 80's action back in theaters though.

lmao the one good thing to come out of the AT&T/Time Warner merger is the George Miller lawsuit's finally been sorted.

Probably the most over hyped action movie of this decade. I don't know why everyone raves about it so much. It's alright.

@TexasAvenger - I went in with very high expectations after all the reviews and was left very underwhelmed. Absolutely nothing happens in the entire movie. It's basically just a rolling set piece.

Sorry guys, I did not like Mad Max and Blade Runner 2049. IMO, very wannabee-creative and wannabee-shocking - Ruin Johnson probably loves that!

Fallout, on the other hand, I do like very much. A very good action movie.

And, btw, THE BOYS is very good, I think (saw the first 4 eps). Why? Because they simply tell a story, without the attitude the aforementioned "lame-ies" went with.

@Sympatico - Mad Max and Blade Runner 2049 aren't comparable at all to any of Johnson's work.

@Sympatico - Johnson wishes he could make a film on the level of Fury Road & 2049.

@Sympatico - Blade Runner 2049 was great.

Rian Johnson has never made a film on that level at all so I'm not sure why you name drop him.

Fury Road was masterfully done. However, it took ages to make and I have my doubts we’ll ever get all three of these proposed follow-ups. I’ll take what I can get though.

SCREW WARNER BROS. (between hearing this and that McQuarrie news last week they really dropping the ball on creators and projects the public would show up for)

Always trying to stop good shit being made, we already know their legal department aint shit anyway, couldn't even handle a dispute over a moustache

@Hawknaba - So true.

Cant believe they rejected McQuarrie's Superman pitch especially after the brilliant MI: Fallout. 🤦

Once Upon a Time in Hollywood...❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

#9 Best Film of the Decade wasn’t high enough for Fury Road on IndieWires recent ranking.

Also, glad stabilization has arrived at WB. Too much of a storied history and legacy in Hollywood to let that stuff remain all messed up.

Can’t wait! It’s one of my favorite sci fi films of recent years, along with:

-Blade Runner 2049
-Annihilation
-Upgrade

And hopefully I can add Dune to that list soon too
