Terry Crews Defends EXPENDABLES 2 PG13 Rating; Says "Blood & Boobs" Do Not Make A Good Movie

One of the Expendables has spoken out in defense of the kid friendly rating slapped on Sly Stallone's action sequel..

So it seems as if Chuck Norris got his wish and the sequel to the (inexplicably) very popular Expendables will be suitable for pretty much anyone that cares to go see it. Apparently it was the cuss words that got Norris's goat. I guess years of smashing people's faces in can tend to lead to an aversion to profanity. Anyway, whatever the reason the movie will be toned the [frick] down, (oops, sorry Chuck) and this has led to quite a bit of fan backlash, considering one of the things that made the first movie so popular was the chance to see these old time action stars in an old school action environment - and that meant lots of damn violence and swearing! One of actors that make up the team of hard cases, Terry Crews, had this to say about the whole situation..

"It's PG-13. Do you really think only men 40 and over saw the first one? The kids bought tickets to Eat, Pray, Love and walked right into The Expendables. In fact, they were YOUR kids. I get it. I really do. But boobs and blood do not a good movie make. You don't want to go. Don't go. I respect it. But you will miss the greatest thing you've ever seen."

So, why have ratings for anything then Terry? I mean he's right too of course, usually having an R rating doesn't automatically mean a movie will be better than a PG13 one, but in this case it kinda does. I didn't like the first movie but I understood it's appeal at the same time, what the Hell is the point of making a sequel that completely undermines the whole reason for the first one existing in the first place? I dunno, I just don't get it. Maybe you guys can enlighten me. Do you agree with crews or do you think Norris should grow the Hell up?

So so true, tired of hollywood tryin to sell us on a boring movie with a hot girl in it. Good to know Crews and Stallone are giving us a reason to stay in our seats the entire movie.

No Norris shouldn't grow up, he has the right idea here. PG-13 attracts a larger audience, you make it R you're alienating a HUGE amount of people. Not only that, I don't care about boobs and blood. A. if you're old enough to see boobs, you probably have a GF so please grow up and stop acting like a 16 year old. B. If a guy gets shot and I don't see blood spewing everywhere i'm not un-immersed in the movie, I don't care and neither should you, are you honestly gonna tell me you won't see the movie if you don't see blood and tits, and you're telling someone else to grow up? Please! *this statement was not directed at the poster, it is only my constructive point of view*

I like Terry Crews, but a boob less, PG 13 movie about guys who are suppose to be out there kicking ass and taking names later, is not a great selling point.

I hope the script has better one liners than the last movie.

Sortis, have you seen the first movie? Maybe I missed the " reason to stay in our seats the entire movie", because without the violence and old school vibe that movie had NOTHING, Hell it sucked even with that but that's just my opinion. As I said in the article, ALL movies don't automatically benefit from more adult content but some do..and thsi is one of the ones that would..or do you go see The Expendables for the story, acting and character developement?

I dont really care about the rating but i say this
the violence was the only good thing in the first which made it watchable.
Hopefully they focus on the story more this time.

The synopsis at least sounds decent.

@RorMachine i agree! i was looking for some major ass-kicking and what i saw was a bunch of old men whining about women or how great things used to be... and then there were a few explosions.

the movie couldve... shouldve... but it didnt.

As payback for taking out the corrupt CIA agent Monroe (Eric Roberts) in the first Expendables, cagey Agent Church (Bruce Willis) forces the Expendables to do an "easy mission": retrieve a missing CIA package from Gazak, a civil war torn country in Easter Europe.

The easy mission turns deadly when the Expendables are ambushed by a team of ruthless rival mercs, the Sangunaires, competing to get the same package. Tool (Mickey Rourke), the heart and souleof the Expendables, is brutally murdered by Vilain, the leader of the bloodthirsty guns for hire. Still, the Expendables manage to pull of the mission and return with the CIA package, but it's a hollow victory.

As their thoughts turn from grief to revenge, Tool's beautiful young daughter Fiona shows up. Cut from the same stone as her dad, she wants to join the Expendables when they hunt down Villain and his men. Barney (Stallone) promises her the Expendables will avenge Tool's death, but will not risk putting his best friend's daughter in harm's way.

Fiona, who is young and wile, embarks on her own revenge mission, complicating matters for Barney when she is captured and ransomed by VIlain. Now Barney and the expendables must risk everything to save her, kidnapping CIA Agent Church and pulling off a daring heist of the CIA package they were hired to bring back.

When Agent Church reveals why the CIA package is so valuable to Vilain, the stakes go up even higher. Inside the package are canisters of radioactive cesium which Vilain has been tasked with releasing on the people's uprising that threatens the thirty year rule of Gazak's vicious dictator, President Dogot.

The Expendables, along with Agent Church, are now faced with an impossible mission: rescue Fiona, foil a dictator's vicious plot to kill scores of innocent people, and avenge the death of one of their own.

Hey, it could be worse. It could be rated PG....like the WWE.

Was their nudity in the first one? Wasn't it just R becaue of gore and cussing? I guess they could get around the cussing in the sequal, but the gore? I mean, seeing Crews turn those guys into hamburger with his shotgun was pretty much the best part of the movie.

Here's my thing about cursing vs violence. Kids can immitate cursing immidiatly. Violence, not so much. Not gun based limb flying violence, anyway. Not to mention, kids who do see the violence get that you do that to bad guys. You just cuss at anybody you're mad at. Bad habbit. That's why I'm a little more biased toward cursing being removed from movies than violence. That, and I find violence adds to my enjoyment more than cursing.

As much as I love boobs, the first movie had none so not having any in the second isn't really hurting it. Also the blood doesnt HAVE to be gory, matter of factly the most blood and gore seen in the first Expendables was from Hale Ceaser blowing people away with the autoshotgun.

Also, I agree with sorcerer123. They they changed the rating, it was because they thought that would make more money. Not because Chuck Norris said so. Although there's a joke to be made there.

I'm pretty sure Chuck Norris has never made a good movie in his life. I don't think he's even made a bad movie that's so bad that it's good. They're just bad movies.
SteveBosell

I for one think Crews is making a good point. Sure the blood and guts of the first one was part of its appeal. More than that though was that it was a bunch of 80s action stars we grew up with still kicking a-- and takin' names. I think this movie can still pack a punch with a PG-13 rating. I mean the 2 ratings aren't too different these days. There will still be tons of violence, just not guts. There will still be plenty of swearing, even a few F-words. There was no sexual content in the first and with a PG-13 rating, you're more likely to see some form of sexual content (sometimes even nudity).

Don't blame this guy.
Chuck Norris is a hard core christian now. He makes guest appearances on christian TV shows here in the U.S.

It probably was a stipulation he demanded before agreeing to appear in the movie.

Not saying that's good or lame...it just is.

Funny how Stallone set out to make a good Man movie full of action but is toning it down. Always nice to see someone deviating from the formula which made the first movie so popular. The goes the guy rating. An action movie with a pg-13 rating is like a pg-13 horror movie. Im sure it'll be a good movie hopefully the script will be better written as well. But at the end of the day i figured Expendables was supposed to be a guy movie.I'll still go see i though..so we shall see

@RorMachine - Naaaahhhh. Basically all movie decisions are based on money. They got Chuck Norris because they thought it would bring in more money. They'll change the rating because the think it will bring it more money. It MIGHT be conected to Norris' comments, but ultimatley they just attach a negative number to that and then net it from all the other factors. It can't be THAT big a number. Its all about the money.
MarkCassidy
MarkCassidy - 2/3/2012, 10:54 AM
Nope, the first one was R and made a packet..hence the sequel, why would they suddenly decide to change anything about that if it wasn't because of Norris?
