A new rumour suggests that the casting process has begun for Fantastic Four, while it definitely sounds like director Jon Watts will jump straight from Spider-Man: No Way Home to this upcoming reboot...

Jon Watts has helmed three Spider-Man movies for Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures, but it appears he's moving on from that franchise for the time being to direct Fantastic Four. Confirmed as the director of that reboot during Disney's Investor Day in 2020, there's a lot of excitement surrounding what he'll bring to the table, though no official details have been revealed beyond a logo.

A writer hasn't been announced for Fantastic Four, but it appears work is moving forward. According to scooper MyTimeToShineHello, the casting process has already begun.

A completed script isn't necessarily needed to start zeroing in on actors for a blockbuster like this, and it's previously been reported that cameras will begin rolling on the reboot next year. We can only hope word soon leaks on who Marvel Studios is eyeing for Mister Fantastic, Invisible Woman, The Thing, and the Human Torch (not to mention the villains).

In related news, Variety recently reported on Watts producing the next Final Destination movie and noted that "His next directing gig will still likely be Marvel Studios’ reboot of the 'Fantastic Four' superhero franchise, which remains undated." Clearly, the filmmaker doesn't intend to take a break from the MCU after directing Spider-Man: No Way Home.

It's unclear whether Watts plans to return to the wall-crawler's franchise, but we find it hard to imagine Sony Pictures will be willing to wait until he's done with Fantastic Four before starting work on Spider-Man 4. It's also feasible the director is looking to move on from Peter Parker after wrapping the trilogy.

Keep checking back here for the latest.

This is not going to be polemic at all.

@JayBarrick - Yeah, no way they'll let Marvel's "First Family" carry that title without "updating" it to reflect... certain things.

@FleischerSupes - Nor should they.

Lol i love it when the entire reason for the article is a single tweet from somebody not involved.

This sounds sarcastic but i genuinely love it.

If i had twitter i would tweet that they're going to gender-swap Sue to be the Invisible Man and make it a crossover with the 2020 movie.

@TheManWithoutFear - genius. Let me tweet that. That way I can say ''I heard that...'' and we officially have a rumour going

Given the current slate of movies, I think the movie could be released in 2024 already. Makes sense that casting has begun by now.

As for the team itself, I kinda wanna see Dev Patel as Reed, Jessica Roth as Sue, Anthony Ramos as Johnny, Cameron Britton as Ben and Roger Clark as the voice of Doom.

@bkmeijer - No matter who in F4 ends up being race-swapped, Sue and Johnny needs to be the same race

@ChrisRed - I kinda like what they were going for in Fant4stic.

They didn't actually do anything with it though, but it could lead to interesting dynamics we haven't seen before.

@bkmeijer - An adopted relationship could be interesting but I'd rather have Sue and Johhny be actual siblings like in the comics. Aside from Wanda and Pietro Marvel doesn't really have that many sibling-heroes that actually grew up together.

@ChrisRed - um...why do you think adopted siblings don't grow up together? Sue could've been adopted into the storm family when she was still a baby. And not only that but you can also have biological siblings not grow up together (happened in my family).

Not to say I want them to be adopted, but your reasons are really iffy.

@Origame - That's not what I meant. Of course adopted siblings can grow up together. What I mean is that that aren't that many actual Marvel siblings that share an upbringing/childhood. Characters like for example Cyclops and Havok usually grow up separately so why not take advantage of a comic accurate Sue and Johnny relationship?
Besides the MCU already has a lot of prominent adopted siblings relationships like Thor/Loki, Natasha/Yelena and Gamora/Nebula.

@ChrisRed - Agreed. I don't think the MCU has the balls have the F4 be a all white cast. Nowadays they want to make sure they check off a box with casting.

@Cyclonus - I don't think it's a matter of "balls". The safest least brave move would be to keep them all wife folks. That being said, the race of the ff has no real bearing on their character or backstory so there is no good reason not to hire the best actors who audition. As long as they are roughly the same size or shape they will represent their comic counterparts just fine

@Hulkh8liars - All I'm saying is that if Marvel choose to raceswap either Sue or Johnny it should be done to both so they can remain actual siblings in the MCU.
But frankly I think it might be better/easier to raceswap Reed and/or Ben.

@ChrisRed - Maybe everybody will be white still. If not they can still be related. I got a black sister and a Cuban brother yet I am a white guy. As long as the cast is good it can work

Still don't trust Watts with this movie tbh.
