A cool, new take on the classic Dark Knight franchise, Beware the Batman incorporates Batman’s core characters with a rogues gallery of new villains not previously seen in animated form. Along with backup from ex-secret agent Alfred and lethal swordswoman Katana, the Dark Knight faces the twisted machinations of Gotham City’s criminal underworld led by the likes of Anarky, Professor Pyg, Mister Toad and Magpie. Produced by Warner Bros. Animation (WBA), this action-packed detective thriller deftly redefines what we have come to know as a “Batman show.”

Part of Cartoon Network's DC Nation Block, 'Beware the Batman," is a CGI animated program debuting on July 13th at 10 AM. The series follows the exploits of Batman, Alfred and Katana as they battle evil-doers such as Anarky, Magpie, Ra's al Ghul, Tobias Whale, Professor Pyg, Mister Toad, Humpty Dumpty, King Kraken, Axel Alex, and Ten-Eyed Man. Anarky will be the primary antagonist of the first season. The series producers have stated that Batman is in the early stages of his career in maybe year five or six. Alfred is characterized as a MI6, Sean Connery - James Bond type retired secret agent who once possessed physical skills on par with Batman during his prime but now he's in his 60s. Sam Register serves as executive producer with Glen Murakami and Mitch Watson handling the finer details as producers. Sam Liu, Rick Morales and Curt Geda will direct individual episodes.

Alfred on par with Batman? I don't like this. I do appreciate some attention to other member's of Batman's rogues gallery.

In the comics Alfred only carries a shotgun in dire emergency. This Alfred being a two pistol toting sidekick really angers me.

Sorry but I'm on the fence about this and actually hoping it tanks. This is coming from someone whose favorite character is Batman.

@Fettastic

I understand that it would nice to start with Batmans normal rogues but they only got that way because they kept being reused.

So far none of these are new rogues created for the show. They are new rogues created 90's and later. Using the classic characters right now could probably cause the show to become really dependent on them.

Joker and co have been in everything,I think we can go a few episodes(maybe even season) without them.

The animation style may be garbage. But I doubt the storytelling will be.

Don't count on it haters. Marvel have a lot of catching up to do in the animated and video game department.

This honestly just does not look good to me. I may watch the pilot, I don't know. I wish we had a really good comic book cartoon again. For now, I'll stick to watching reruns of Batman: the Animated Series and Superman: the Animated Series on the Hub channel.

I'll give it a shot. Looks a little strange, but I remember thinking the same of The Batman on CW and it was good. Nothing will ever be like Batman TAS though, brilliant!

How is this the "early" years of Batman, but Alfred is too old and in need of a replacement?

Why do these companies try purposely to stay away from the established canon? Anyone remember they tried the exact same thing with "The Batman" when it first came out? NO ONE watched it and in season 3 they finally brought in known characters and known stories and arcs. And as always is the case; as soon as a show starts to deliver fan service; the seasons get fewer episodes and is eventually canceled. WTF?

"Young Justice" showed more respect to the modern version of Batman (and all the DC heroes for that matter) than ANY OTHER animated show has ever attempted to do. That's not a dig at "Batman: TAS" or "Justice League". I'm just saying that watching YJ felt like I was reading a current issue of Batman.

Why is it that the ONLY avenue a hardcore fan has is the comic book itself? When a new show is announced, I always listen for the tell-tell words/phrases (stand alone episodes, geared toward a younger audience, the fans have the comic books) that are clear indicators that the show is going to be crap ("Ultimate Spider-Man" anyone?) I never thought in a million years that WB (Can't really blame DC here) would stoop to Marvel animation lows but when they canceled "Green Lantern: TAS" and YJ I was like "WTF are they doing". They canceled those two shows because they were too serious and too continuity heavy? Wow.

Sorry for the rant, but I'm just pissed that we (true fans) can't get quality visual representations of quality comic books.

this show sounds well named. Bewaring THIS Batman and avoiding contact with it sounds like a fair and reasonable warning. I've loved a wide variety of Batman animated shows, from The New Adventures way back when I was a kid to the legendary TAS and the near-equally brilliant Brave and the Bold, but this one reminds me a lot of the only one I really disliked ("Lemonhead" aka "The Batman". The idea of a gun-toting Alfred as a partner sounds really lame, and I'm not crazy about his surrounding cast. I do like them using non-standard villains, even as Brave and the Bold did. I'm fair, so I will give this a chance. My expectations are low.

Nibs: Batman: TAS may not look that visually stunning today, twenty years after it first appeared, but that is because we're looking at it now having seen the numerous Timm/Dini series that followed it, when they had perfected their animation style and that look much cleaner and crisper than the early TAS. Hell, Dini and Timm themselves acknowledge this. But Batman:TAS is not revered as it is strictly for its animation. It also revolutionized kids' cartoon series storytelling, treating its viewers with respect, not writing down to them as most series before that had done. Its stories hold up well to this day. As for kids saying they don't like the animation? My six-year old nephew is crazy about TAS. The show is timeless.

Fair enough. And I get that....BUT being responsible to shareholders and selling toys doesn't equate to dumbing down a show. Selling Toys has more to do marketing correctly, not making a show silly. I'm sorry, but I refuse to buy into that. If the argument is - the show is geared toward a younger audience so they will go out and buy the toys then I'm at a lost because understanding situations and concepts the characters find themselves in has zero impact on a young person just seeing the character on screen and wanting a toy to play with (and vice versa). My seven year old wanted a man of steel toy REGARDLESS of what he saw Henry Cavill do in the movie. That disconnect has ALWAYS existed. Now all of a sudden its the go-to excuse.

Nibs, not to sound confrontational but what is it to you what anyone does? I'm assuming you'll watch the show, so will i as it goes. The same way i believe some one said they'll leave the show to you, leave them to their opinions. No-ones going to say "you're right, i shouldn't judge a show before it airs" so let them be.

The CGI animation just isn't for me. Very, very few shows made in such a way manage to be as good as "traditional" cartoons in most areas imo (those can be bad too, of course). I gave "Green Lantern" a chance, but the visuals just put me off. Characters were okay-ish, but overall it just looked bad to me. So far I'm far from being sold on the "Beware..." visuals.

I don't know, probably really just a matter of personal taste. I think the whole DCAU (Batman TAS, Superman TAS, Batman Beyond, Justice League) has aged really well. The visuals, while dated, fit the well-written stories and together with the great music and the superb voice acting these shows still are the definite interpretations of those characters for me.

Ah well, I will watch the new Batman show, as I have tried every new Batman show since TAS. I just think there is no real need for a new Batman show like this.

FIRST OF ALL - I wasn't being confrontational so calm down. I voiced my opinion which is my right. If you weren't so keen on attacking someone, you would have UNDERSTOOD what I was saying. NEVER once did I say/write that "Beware The Batman" was dumbed down. I was speaking in general terms about companies changing characters into least common denominator versions of the source material.

How do you know GL TAS & YJ didn't sell toys? You work at WB? No, you read something someone said on the matter and took it for gospel (and that tells me a lot about you). Furthermore, the president of WB animation said the shows were too serious and that they wanted to go in the other direction when it comes to animation. Toys based on a show either sell or they don't. My point (again if you had actually read what I wrote) was that dumbing down a show (ANY superhero show) doesn't mean that the show will automatically sell toys but that seems to be what WB and Marvel tend to do nowadays. It's one of the main reasons why Bruce Timm left WB/DC.

I don't know if BTB will be good or not. All I can go on is my common sense based on what I've seen so far. I don't have a problem with 3D animation that others seem to. My concern is with story elements and from what I've seen so far - it's going to suck and be dumbed down IMO. And that's OK because its my frickin' opinion!! Get over yourself. NOW I've said it. Happy?

Nibs, Bruce Timm confirmed that the reason GL was canceled was strictly because it wasn't selling toys.
The ratings were fine. Same for YJ, a show that was top rated in CN's lineup.

That's all cartoons are good for now. If it doesn't move toys it doesn't stay on the air.

I never said I wouldn't watch it. I said I would try the pilot, but from what I have seen and heard, I am not very interested. The main thing that turns me off is the PREMISE. I don't care about the animation, in fact, I loved Green Lantern: the Animated Series. It is the STORYLINE that they are going for that I am just not interested in. My opinion.
