Scoob! was released during the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic last May. Warner Bros. took the experimental approach of having it debut in theaters (well, the ones that were still open) at the same time as Digital platforms, and it started rolling out internationally later that summer.

As a result, the $26.3 million box office haul wasn't exactly indicative of the movie's quality, and it never got a chance to make the sort of impact Scooby-Doo and the rest of the Mystery Inc. gang usually would. Despite that, the studio must be pleased with its performance on Digital and physical platforms because director Tony Cervone has confirmed that a sequel is being developed.

We caught up with the prolific filmmaker to discuss his work on Space Jam during its 25th anniversary and ahead of the movie's release on 4K Blu-ray for the first time ever on July 6. We asked if he'd considered a sequel or prequel, and it was then Tony talked about the planned follow-up.

"Actually, we are kicking the tyres on a follow-up to Scoob!" he confirmed earlier today. "It hasn’t been announced yet, but it’s something we’re all excited about. The whole creative team that made the first movie is still around and back and working on something new. It was neat to create this Hanna-Barbera Cinematic Universe, and it’s exciting to return to it."

This is great news for Scooby-Doo fans and it seems this "Hanna-Barbera Cinematic Universe" will now continue to expand with Scooby, Shaggy, Fred, Velma, and Daphne taking centre stage.

As Tony mentioned, this Scoob! sequel hasn't been officially announced yet, but we'll hopefully get more news soon. In the meantime, let us know your thoughts on these plans in the comments section.

More Mystery and fun scares. Less superhero shit.

I wasn't expecting much, but I really hated Scoob! when I saw it. The animation wasn't bad (except for the out of nowhere Simon Cowell cameo). The problem was the forced attempt at a cinematic universe, trying to modernize obscure Hanna-Barbera characters kids never heard of, all the cringy pop culture references, and the pointless celebrity voice cast. It's a Scooby-Doo movie, but there's literally no mystery to any of it. It was a mess.

@Waddles - Probably because when they wrote and recorded it it was YEARS before it came out. Simon was probably still a thing then.

With James Gunn's popularity, wonder if they would ever release the original cut of the live action movie

I think the original Scooby Doo cartoons are still the best and nothing has really captured that magic since then. I'd say just re-play those on TV more or put them on streaming and you'd probably make more money than another stupid universe building movie.

That's all well and good but what ever happened to this gem in the making?

It looks Riverdale bad but Jessica Chancellor is hotter than the devil's pitchfork so I may overlook the actual quality.

My son who loves everything Scooby even said it sucked. They need to recast the voices for the kids and focus on making a kid scary, actual mystery solving movie. We didn’t need a Hanna Barbers cinematic universe. Just focus on making each movie good. I’m still waiting for a great Johnny Quest movie. A kid James Bond/Indians Jones having adventures with his family, you can’t miss.

I really enjoyed it. There was a lot stuffed into it that could have been a trilogy, but it was a fun movie.

Bleh. The animation was good but the voice cast and the movie were awful.

I’m torn. My nephews actually love the beginning part dae more than the rest of the movie so it didn’t even appeal to to the children at whom it was aimed (in my house, at least). They brought Scooby on to Blue Flacon’s world and I think it hurt them a little. It should have, and could have, been flipped. I clearly wasn’t the demo they were looking to please, but I think they should’ve been far more inspired by Mystery Inc who’s template for a combined universe was, although, limited, much more appealing. They could’ve dove more into the surreal than the show and succeeded in a more believable way.
