Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania is now playing in most theaters worldwide, and Marvel Studios' first Phase 5 movie is off to a... so-so start at the box office.
According to the latest updates (via Deadline), Peyton Reed's threequel took in between $17 million and $18 million from Thursday night preview screenings.
This is an Ant-Man franchise best, but Quantumania is being promoted as a much bigger event that its predecessors, and with that in mind, it falls way short of Phase 4's releases: Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness ($36M), Thor: Love & Thunder ($29M) and Black Panther: Wakanda Forever ($28M).
Even so, Ant-Man 3 is on track to take in $95 million to $100 million domestically over the course of its opening weekend, and is still expected to make as much as $280M globally (it's currently sitting at $41.3M).
Though audiences seem to be reacting more positively overall, critics have not been kind to the movie, which has now dropped to 49% on Rotten Tomatoes (only the second MCU film to be deemed "rotten" after 2021's Eternals).
