Michael Douglas Explains Why He's In ANT-MAN: "I've Been Dying To Do A Marvel" Movie

Marvel Studios surprised many Monday when they announced that Michael Douglas had signed on to star opposite Paul Rudd in the forthcoming Ant-Man movie. Becoming a trending topic on Twitter immediately following the announcement, the veteran actor says the unexpected aspect of his casting is one of the reasons he agreed to dip into the comic book movie genre. The other reasons?

“I've been dying to do a Marvel picture for so long,” he told Reuters recently. “The script is really fun, the director is really good. Dylan (his 13-year-old son) will love it. He'll have a picture he can see.” About his decision to surprise everyone with a superhero film, the actors says, “Sometimes - like [when] they didn't see you for Liberace - you've got to shake them up a little bit and have some fun.” While Douglas has done only one sequel in his entire career, which spans nearly 50 years, the actor teased involvement in Ant-Man sequels. “[Marvel] reciprocated well, there are sequels. Who knows?” he said. Safe to say he signed a multi-picture deal. Anyhow, the film starts principal photography in May and is set for release on July 31, 2015. What do you think?

So they're planning sequels already...

I just hope they bring Edgar Wright back for them.

He's the only old actor in Marvel that seems like he wants to work with Marvel. Hugo Weaving, Tommy Lee Jones, Jeff Bridges, Anthony Hopkins... They all either don't support the movies, look bored at premiere's or say they never want to be in the role ever again. Lol.

Can't believe the names Marvel is pulling. They got Ben Kingsley, Anthony Hopkins, Robert Redford, Glenn Close, SLJ and now Michael Douglous. Love this casting decision and I trust Marvel, they haven't disappointed me yet.

Haven't been able to comment on anything all day seeing as how know Rudd won't be Pymn bit, whatever. I still like everything Wright's done up to now so, fingers crossed. Just disappointed that Marvel didn't mandate that Pymn would need to be an eventual Avenger. Oh, hell, I'm ranting. I'll shut up now...

Oh, yeah... to the point of the page; if they do need to go with an older Pymn, as they are, Michael Douglas is a damn good choice!

@ Repoman

EVERYONE wants that RDJ cash!

Still, even with all the Michael Douglas as Hank Pym or Johnny Depp as Dr. Strange I say the most shocking thing I've heard today was Ultimate Warrior being inducted to the WWE Hall of Fame.

I still have doubts. Not about his acting but for the movie. What is that direction Wright is going?? Is he sure that this is the (w)right direction??

Anyway, this movie is still highly ANT-icipated!!

People screaming [frick] YOU to Edgar Wright need to be put in an asylum. Wright makes good, non-cookie-cutter films. He's arguably one of the best directors of our generation. He gets "it". He's more nerdier than most of us.

Maybe there is a twist like Iron Man 3's the mandarin

And maybe Michael Douglas is a fake Hank Pym , lol

Absolute Win with a casting of Both Ant-Man's . Stop bitching like a bunch of pussies and enjoy the great actor as Hank Pym or seat on your ass and keep complaining, no body will feel sorry for ya while enjoying the film.

Cool.
I'm absolutely fine with this casting. I dont exactly see a problem with it. I kind of saw it coming that Ant Man would have existed before the events of Iron Man.

No one cares about Scott Lang? Uh, you're talking to a proud owner of Avengers #181 as well as Marvel Premiere #47 & 48.

Bunch of Pussies here complaining or Should I call you all Bitchez. Yeah, you are Bitchez! Stinking Bitches.

Stop the Bullshit already. Hank Pym is there, film opens in the past. Pym invents the technology. Pym is Badass. Pym is even more Badass played by Douglas. No body is flushing him over.

It is a good move from MARVEL. They have both Ants in same Universe, and if they want to make Hank Pym solo, now they don't have to reboot it. And it is probably not the last appearance of him.

Lozzy - 1/14/2014, 12:21 AM
Scott Lang is a great character that I think a lot of the audience can relate to.
MightyZeus
MightyZeus - 1/14/2014, 12:22 AM
@Lozzy, Agreed

The general audience wont care about the complaints that Hank Pym will be old. Besides i actually prefer Scott Lang to Hank Pym. Hank Pym is weird, a douche to his wife and is creepy.

Scott Lame? Reminds me The Anchorman 2!)
He will be a robber/thief and probably a charismatic douche as Dr.Jones jr, Han Solo, Nathan Drake, Cap.Reynolds and the rest.
He will be fun, while Hank will be Brains, cause Lang or Lame is Action and Fun. Why not.

Complainers are Bitches with Stinky Pussies!

I lie when i say i didnt want a younger pym but
Michael Douglas?! Thats a big win in my book!

Infact the more i think about it the more sense it makes!

Lozzy
Lozzy - 1/14/2014, 12:26 AM
@CoulsonLives

We will see a younger Hank Pym as Ant-man in the 60s. So Hank Pym will be the first Ant-man in the MCU.
MsDarkPhoenix
MsDarkPhoenix - 1/14/2014, 12:27 AM
I don't know if Pym is more interesting than Lang, I like them both, but I do know that Pym comes with Janet and now we won't see Wasp in Avengers 3. Which is stupid, because Whedon said that she was in the original draft of the Avengers and he loved her!! Now what?? I want Janet!!!!
