Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom splashes down into theaters this December and, as far as we're aware, it will be the final DCEU movie rather than one of the first DCU titles.
When DC Studios was first launched, it was strongly hinted that Jason Momoa will be part of the new DCU, albeit as Lobo rather than Arthur Curry. As a result, the Aquaman sequel is likely to be the last time we see this version of the character, but will the King of Atlantis go out on a high?
In some newly released promo art, we see a Silver Age-inspired spin on Aquaman as he goes toe-to-toe with Black Manta...while a volcano erupts in the background! It's an epic piece of imagery and one we hope to see recreated in live-action.
We've long heard rumblings about there being issues with Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, and at least a few rounds of reshoots are thought to have taken place.
Both Michael Keaton and Ben Affleck have previously shot cameos for the sequel, though both were later cut in order to avoid setting the stage for future stories which won't be part of the new DCU. With that in mind, we're guessing other big alterations have also been made.
In Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, when an ancient power is unleashed, Aquaman must forge an uneasy alliance with an unlikely ally to protect Atlantis, and the world, from irreversible devastation.
The movie stars Jason Momoa (Aquaman), Nicole Kidman (Atlanna), Patrick Wilson (Orm), Amber Heard (Mera), Yahya Adbdul-Mateen II (Black Manta), and Dolph Lundgren (King Nereus), along with newcomers in the form of Pilou Asbæk, Vincent Regan, and Indya Moore.
Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom arrives in theaters on December 20.
