AQUAMAN Director James Wan Promises There Will Be "No Air Bubbles" In His Upcoming Underwater Adventure

Justice League gave the world their first taste of Atlantis and well, it was a bit underwhelming, but fret not, it sounds like James Wan plans on taking his Atlantis in a drastically different direction.

Justice League director Zack Snyder delivered the world's first look at the underwater world of Atlantis and unfortunately, it was just a tad underwhelming as a good chunk of what he filmed was scrapped by Joss Whedon in favor of streamlining the movie and whatever was left over from his original version didn't exactly paint a promising picture of the underwater kingdom and what was to come in 2018's Aquaman, which is expected to be set almost entirely under the sea.

One of the film's more anticipated reveals took place shortly after Steppenwolf's attack on Atlantis when it was revealed how the Atlanteans communicated in deep underwater and it a little baffling to say the least. The brief scene, which mostly served as a setup for the next DC Films entry, saw Mera (Amber Heard) form an underwater air bubble to engage in a relatively heated conversation with her future husband, Arthur Curry, a.k.a. Aquaman (Jason Momoa), and left many fans wondering whether his eagerly awaited solo film would also feature such an uninspired method of communication.

With a lot of the DC fandom in panic mode after the critical and commercial disappointment of Justice League, acclaimed director James Wan (Furious 7) took to Twitter earlier this afternoon to ease their nerves just a tad and ensured that his upcoming blockbuster will have "no air bubbles for dialogue," which should be welcome news for all.

With Aquaman still well over a year out, we haven't heard too many details about the film's plot and with no other DC Films slated for 2018, it's a little uncertain when we'll actually get our first look at some real footage. However, if we were to wager an educated guess, Steven Spielberg's Ready Player One, which is due out March 30, seems to be the safest bet to have the trailer attached to its theatrical release, so stay on the lookout for news as we approach the new year.

Arthur Curry learns that he is the heir to the underwater kingdom of Atlantis, and must step forward to lead his people and to be a hero to the world.

Aquaman features:
Director: James Wan
Jason Momoa as Arthur Curry/Aquaman
Amber Heard as Mera
Willem Dafoe as Nuidis Vulko
Patrick Wilson as Orm/Ocean Master
Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as David Hyde/Black Manta
Nicole Kidman as Queen Atlanna
Temuera Morrison as Thomas Curry
Dolph Lundgren as King Nereus
Ludi Lin as Murk
Michael Beach as Jesse Kane
Graham McTavish in an undisclosed role

Are people so thick! They were just showing off Mera's mastery of "water magic" it was a dope effect to show the average movie goer that alateans have a special relationship with water and then setting up why Arthur was able to hold back the flood in the first Steppenwolf fight!

@James99201 - Well, to be fair, I expect a little bit more for my movies today than I do for movies that were made half a century ago...

@James99201 -

James,

People aren't thick they just aren't comic nerds.

How would you expect them to know this was just Mera using water magic and not how Atlantean's communicate underwater? They don't know anything about Mera (she's barely in it) nor is there an in depth explanation of what an Atlantean can and can't do. The whole footage with Aquaman's interaction there was very very short.

You know about Mera and I know about Mera but for the average moviegoer they're going to need it better spelled out. To some of them it seemed like this was the way they communicate since...well...she did it in order to communicate. It may not be the way they normally do it, but it was the way they saw it done.

You have to think outside of what you know to understand how this could have been easily misinterpreted and it would be the filmmakers fault not the audience.

Everyone knows Aquaman has powers over the oceans, you don't really need to set that up, just show him using his trident to do something, not everyone knows how an Atlantean would be depicted communicating underwater in a live action film.

I'm not surprised they thought this was how they would do it.

@Humperdink - Exactly. I've never read an Aquaman comic and so I was confused by this scene. I kept thinking, really? People who LIVE UNDERWATER need an air bubble to speak? That's stupid.

@James99201 - No obviously not But it did look like it was made in 2005. This movie cost 300 million dollars. We shouldn't excuse bad CGI

Good. While it didn't stand out as awkward to me during JL, my first thought in the theater was that I really hoped they didn't have to make a bubble every time there was dialogue in Aquaman.
