Joss Whedon Interested In Helming DC Comics Adaptation; Shares WONDER WOMAN Regrets
Joss Whedon has made it clear that he's taking a break from Marvel after Avengers: Age of Ultron, but is he lobbying for one of the upcoming DC Comics adaptations? He'd like to helm one, but believes that his humorous approach probably won't be welcome in the grim world of Batman v Superman...
Joss Whedon has made it clear both before and during promotion for Avengers: Age of Ultron that the sequel will be his last Marvel movie for the forseeable future. He's not bluffing either, as Joe and Anthony Russo were recently confirmed as helming the two-part Avengers: Infinity War. However, while Whedon has been talking a lot about creating something original, the filmmaker tells IGN that he's more than ready to take a crack at a DC Comics adaptaion. "Sure. I’d be like 'I have all these joke ideas.' And they’d be like 'No, we don’t do that here,'" he teased, before adding: "I desperately wanted to do a Batman film – who doesn’t? And I wanted to do Wonder Woman. I was a Marvel kid growing up, but I was always DC-curious. And I see myself on the spectrum in between." A new Batman movie is exected at some point in the next few years, and Warner Bros. would be wise to consider Whedon for the job, even if he does want to inject some humour into the Caped Crusader's world. After all, would that really be such a bad thing?
As for Wonder Woman - a movie which the director was developing back in 2005 - it doesn't sound like he has any interest in taking over from Michelle MacLaren, but feigned grief at the prospect of someone other than him taking the helm. "I don’t care who she’s seeing now. We don’t talk much. And I wish her well! I worked really hard on that movie and it meant a lot, but I don’t know if what I was trying to do would fit in with what their vision is. I’m excited to see it so I just want them to make it so I can see it!" Would you guys like to see Whedon take on a DC Comics adaptation? As always, share your thoughts on the filmmaker's comments in the usual place!
