Josh Brolin Recalls "Almost Immediate" Decision To Play 'THANOS' In Marvel Cinematic Universe
After teasing Thanos' next big-screen appearance in the MCU, Josh Brolin looks back on when Marvel Studios had offered him the Mad Titan role and also how he "almost immediately" agree to do it.
"I don't know," said Josh Brolin when ComingSoon.net asked when he will go full-on as Thanos, which will most likely be during the hyped Avengers: Infinity War event in 2018 and 2019 if not in Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 2 in 2017. "I do know, but I don't know. But I think it is gonna be fairly soon. And I know it is gonna be... good. I am very very pleased with that whole trajectory and all the possibilities. I've talked to Kevin Feige about it, and Louis D'Esposito, and it's good."
Josh Brolin then explained why he's happy that the Mad Titan role is literally the opposite of anything he's ever done. "I was in England and I was doing Everest during [while] making that decision [to play Thanos]," he said. "And strangely enough - and I'm always surprised by what I decide to do right away and what you say no to especially in hindsight- Thanos was almost immediate. I looked through a book that they had sent me and was like 'God this is amazing'"
During a separate interview with MTV News at the Toronto International Film Festival, Josh Brolin reiterated that deciding to play Thanos was a "very" easy decision. "I've become a guy who's like oh yeah, they offered me a part and I said no, which is not as common as we talk about it," he said. "But Everest was one, Thanos was the other. I'd turned down a lot of these things or bigger movies and immediately they sent me a huge book of all [executive producer Louis D'Esposito's] stuff because I wasn't too familiar. I was in England doing Everest, I was halfway through the book and I was like, 'I'm so in.'" Finally, Brolin said this his mostly motion-capture performance in Guardians of the Galaxy was "really nerve-wracking but in an exciting way." What do you think?
Marvel's Avengers: Infinity War - Part I and Part II will reteam Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Civil War screenwriters Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely with co-directors Joe and Anthony Russo. The highly-anticipated two-part event will also be the first movies ever to be shot entirely with new IMAX cameras, when principal photography begins reportedly in October, 2016. Avengers: Infinity War - Part I opens May 4, 2019, and Part II May 3, 2019. What do you think?
