Chris Evans And Hemsworth On Costumes, Stunts And Training For Captain America & Thor!

As well as talking about the above, we also have five new images of the actors from USA Weekend including Evans wielding the shield and Hemsworth grabbing hold of Mjolnir...

What went through your mind the first time you put on your colorful costumes?

Hemsworth: Holy [expletive]. I walked onto set, and Anthony Hopkins and I were in our full get-up. We looked at each other and he said, “Well, there's no acting required here, is there?” It was like being a kid playing dress-up, but the costume's worth more than your house.

Evans: It's all still terrifying. It's a lot of responsibility and a little nerve-racking. As actors, you make movies for the audience — you really can't act without an audience, otherwise you'd be crazy. And this is such an important thing for the audience, you really want to make sure you get it right.

Did you feel silly doing any of the superhero stunts?

Hemsworth: Some of the wire gags and hanging upside down. I'm a pretty active person, but some of that stuff, I was like, “God, get me down from this thing.” It's hard work! It's like you're an actor one minute and an acrobat the next, spinning upside down backward for certain things and just wanting to throw up. But it all looks good once it's up there on the screen.

We know you worked out hard, but did you enjoy getting out of shape, too?

Evans: As soon as we stopped shooting, I stopped going to the gym. Oh, my God, I never wanted to see another weight in my life! I completely just dove into a bowl of lazy for about two months.

Hemsworth: It was really weird because you almost become addicted to it. Then all of a sudden the hand brake is pulled and you're allowed to relax. There's a part of you that doesn't really want to, because it's used to doing this, but you do need to rest.

With an all star cast which includes Chris Evans as Captain America, Robert Downey Jr as Iron Man, Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Mark Rufallo as Bruce Banner, Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye, Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow, Cobie Smulders as Maria Hill, Clark Gregg as Agent Coulson and Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury, The Avengers is set to be released on May 4, 2012!

If that is what out of shape looks like, why didn't i get the f*cking memo! I would be one happy camper if i looked like that when i was "out of shap" but i am guessing these were taken recently and they are back in to the swing of things getting ready for the avengers.

This why Marvel is awesome.
Those pics are not made for you or me.
They are made for women ad gorls to get them interested in projects they would normally have little interst in.

It's great marketing.

This clearly illustrates my biggest concern with CATFA. I look at Chris Evans and I don't see Steve Rogers. NOT AT ALL. He doesn't even slightly resemble what I would've imagined Steve Rogers to look like. All the way from his build to the way his face looks. I would've probably had far fewer objections to the way the costume looked had they simply cast an actor who more looked the part. Hemsworth, on the other hand seems like a fine casting. The could've gone with a tougher, slightly more Grizzly Adams (?) looking guy IMO, but I'm sure he'll own the part. I don't think Chris Evans does the character any justice at all. And keep in mind, this is who the general audience is going to picture when you say Captain America FROM NOW ON. Just like Hugh Jackson has more or less become Wolverine, Chris Evans will now be Captain America. I think Captain America has has taken a serious blow with this casting...one that he may not recover from any time soon.

@superpooper

How does an actor's everyday look have anything to do with his/her performance? So an actor has to parade around town with the same exact hairstyle and make-up as he wore when he was filming? Gimme a break. When I look at Mark Strong, I don't see Sinestro at all. I guess that means he's gonna suck in the role? Same thing goes for RDJ as Tony Stark. Everyone HATED that casting decision, remember? And what about Heath Ledger as the Joker? He wasn't particularly liked, either. Even now, when I look at pictures of Heath, I STILL don't see the Joker. Not in any way, shape, or form. But that does nothing to diminish his portrayal of the Joker or what he did for the Batman mythos. You're just like every other slack-jawed fool who quickly changed their minds once Iron Man and The Dark Knight came out.

I kind of thought these two would end up as friends, they're around the same age and they both seem like cool guys. Glad they're all buddies! :D

@superpoope- You're not making any sense. All of the pics of Steve Rogers from the movie look IDENTICAL to Steve Rogers from the comics, he looks completley different. As for his build, are you as buff as Evans? I didn't think so. He totally bulked up for the role and he's going to do a fine job. I thought people were over this by now.

@truepunishment Oops...my bad! I meant Hugh JAGOFF. Wow! Now I'm embarrassed!
@Indoraptor Look, the guy does not look like Steve Rogers. That's it. They had to pump him up with steroids and give him a make-over just to come close. I only say this because I love Captain America and hate to see him sold short. Evans was bad casting. You guys can lie to yourselves all you want, but at the end of the day they could've done better. Will he pull a rabbit out of his anus and turn it around? Dude what the [frick] am I, Nostradamus? I don't know. But I'll put my money on NO. I don't care if those pictures are off season. He is soooo not Steve Rogers that it's disturbing. Seeing him next to Hemsworth just makes me go WTF? And don't give me that "I don't like Marvel" shit. Just because my avatar is a dog in a superman suit doesn't mean I'm a DC fanboy. I'm 90% Marvel and have been for 30+ years. I don't like the casting. It's not like I'm the only one who doesn't. But let's just wait til the movie comes out, ok? Don't worry...when you guys are trying to peel your faces out of your palms, I'll be kind and not gloat over how right I was.
@Ryden Yes. I work out all the time. I actually make him look small. That's how i could tell in one sec that he's bloated from juice. I'd say D-bol, but he didn't take enough time to cut. He should have cycled down with some winny and anavar and upped his cardio toward the end to lose the water weight. He doesn't looked ripped, he just looks bulky. Of course when you got a guy who's not naturally a gym rat you have to go to extremes to if you want to throw 20 pounds on him in such short of time, and thus what you see is what you get. Hence...BAD CASTING.
Bottom line, this is just my opinion. I'm not trying to shit on what you guys like or insult anyone. If it floats your boat then more power to you. Like I've said before, if the movie rules I'll be just as happy as anyone. I'm just saying what I feel and hopefully some interesting discussion can come of it. PEACE.

@superpooper...it sounds like you know a little bit too much about steroids. With kidding aside, I've always hated how people judge actors before their actual performances are seen on screen. Sure, we've seen the previews but there is a lot more to see. Why bytch and complain and waste our breath BEFORE the movie even comes out. I guess that's what makes us fans, but I've done a lot of reading on this site, and there are definitely a good number of complainers. I would definitely say I am 90% marvel like you mr. superpooper, but that's with 7% going to batman, 2% going to GL, and 2% going to the flash (YES THE FLASH). While these pics are out of season and done after the movie has been developed, I think you should take into account the acting performances, not just the performers. I've really appreciated the performances by RDJ and Ledger; they've literally blown my mind.

But onto a random though...marvel zombies movie anyone?
