On How He Feels Portraying An Iconic Character Like The Hulk:

"It's like doing a sex scene. It's like doing a sex scene with 20 total strangers standing around and someone telling you how you can do it better. All eyes are on you, right?"

On When He Starts Work On The Avengers:

"In April."

On How He's Preparing For The Role And His Inspirations:

"You dust off. You go back. I think you go right back to the beginning and dust off your first issue of Avengers and I've been doing that. I've been watching the 100 hours of Bill Bixby's Hulk. And I've been really thinking about the inception, the original motivation of that character and why they came up with that character. He's a cross between Doctor Jekyll and Mr. Hyde and Frankenstein. I'm finding a lot of stuff there. And I'm actually going to be physically playing the Hulk. No other actor's ever done that. So I've been getting into Tai Chi and Pilates and doing a lot of movement stuff. I don't know what I want to do with it exactly, but I've been working physically to bring the leviathan alive."

On How He Plans To Make Bruce Banner Interesting:

"What I'm worried about is bringing some spark of originality and spontaneity to that character. He's the only one who doesn't want to be there [in the Avengers] really. Everyone else is sort of digging on their super powers and he's the only one who doesn't want to be there, which could be an incredibly uninteresting person to spend two hours with."

On Whether We'll See A Speaking Hulk After The Events Of The Last Movie:

"I don't know. We ended the last Hulk with him smiling and you feel like he's getting control of it. And I don't know how deep we're gonna get into that, but my general feeling is for Bruce Banner/the Hulk and what I hope we talk about is that Bruce Banner is slowly but surely -- it's like riding a wild mustang. At some point you do start to get it a little but under control. And like I said, I don't know what the final script's gonna be, but we've talked a lot about him at some point being able to penetrate his consciousness with the consciousness of the goliath."

On How He Feels About The Upcoming TV Series:

"Dude, it's like my generation's Hamlet. It looks like we're all gonna get a shot at it. I guess the more the merrier, you know?"

As long as he doesn't try to do all that "pause acting" crapola I think he's going to be OK.

@pollix22: I fist blocked myself accidentally once. Had teeth marks on my knuckles for a week.

@ pollix22

i agree, the hulk tv show is hamlet, its like saying smallville is "the godfather".

@ breakubatman

yes,i believe they're using avatar tech.

i say more hulk less banner,i'm paying to see the hulk not banner.

they must include in the film thor vs the hulk, that'll be worth the ticket price alone.

I get two interesting points from this interview. Firstly we get to see the slow emergings of an 'intelligent' Hulk.

And secondly, it doesn't look like he is gonna get involved with any possibly TV series.

Deadpool@ I wanna see that fight with Thor - I think that is a certain!

BUT I don't wanna see more Hulk at expense of Banner - it's a bit like when Tony Stark puts the Ironman suit on...it can get pretty dull pretty quickly if the director isn't careful.

i'm having confidence in this guy after reading this.

altough i still hate it that edward norton aint playing him. :p he so nailed it!

rufallo has a hard job in front of him.

i think this would suit me 60/40 or 70/30 hulk over banner screen time.

I THINK EVERYONE IS A BIT PTURBED ABOUT NORTON NOT REPLAYING BANNER...I THINK IF RDJ WASN'T ON STAGE SMOOTHING THINGS OVER WITH THE CROWD PEOPLE WOULD HAVE BOOED HIS ASS OFF THE STAGE..EITHER THAT OR SAY "WTF?!? BOOO WHERES NORTON!!!!"...

"SHHHH, LISTEN AND YOU'LL HEAR ME FART."

Thanks guys. :) This is the most detailed interview with Ruffalo that we've seen for a while and despite the fact that there's a lot of interesting tidbits of info here, I am a little disappointed that he had nothing more to say than that same old Hamlet wisecrack when asked about the TV series. Regardless, I think he's a brilliant choice for Bruce Banner and hope he gets chance to play the character in a solo movie at some point. Oh, and [frick] Norton.
Gunslinger
Gunslinger - 11/17/2010, 4:16 AM
I think when he compared The Hulk to Hamlet he wasn't talking about the TV series but the character himself... and the way he's been portrayed by 3 different guys in the past 10 years... a bit like Hamlet who's been played by a lot of actors in movie adaptations (even Mel Gibson had a shot at it).

"It looks like we're all gonna get a shot at it. I guess the more the merrier, you know?"

He's making fun (constructively) of the fact that the TV Hulk will be portrayed by yet another actor.

Personally I think he'll do a great job and add to the character.

Good find JoshW!

ThunderCougarFalconBird - 11/17/2010, 4:50 AM
Well it sounds like the TV show will be a separate universe as he basically just said he's not in it. Which in turn means the TV show will go as far as the live action Star Wars series that was multi award winning....oh wait, that didn't get further than a bunch of empty promises did it ;-)
Ryden
Ryden - 11/17/2010, 5:02 AM
@paullie- Why? It's clear that Ruffalo's Hulk is following on from TIH. And Tim Blake Nelson said recently that he's still very interested in playing the Leader.

@Gunsmith- Stop being so harsh on the guy. It's not his fault that Ed Norton was being a whiny bitch about the Avengers, it's just a job for him.
drfate
drfate - 11/17/2010, 6:34 AM
how do you watch 100 hours of the live Hulk series, and then say, no other actor has physically played the Hulk before???
hulkjesh
hulkjesh - 11/17/2010, 6:55 AM
More Hulk Less Banner, Hulk talks more so he doesnt come off like an animal but not stupid childish 3rd person quips, an he kicks everyone in the Avengers ass before accepting membership. If Avengers does that it will be successful. I actually liked the initial idea of the Hulk being the bad guy. But I didnt think he should be the bad guy it should be more along the lines of him Fighting the others an then them finally realizing what he's all about an accepting him as a hero. The big deal with The Hulk has always been that the other Heroes an Villains all envy his Power. I don't care what happens as long as we get more Hulk. I still remember watching Ang lees Hulk an thinking boring an not enough Hulk. I was down after the movie cause I didn't think we would get more Hulk because of that. I am glad that Marvel seems to do better with him then Fox. So more Hulk

i think he meant an actor playing bruce and the hulk vs 2 seperate actors ussually once he turns the actor playing bruce is off the hook till he turns back
i love the old show hope they keep with the fugitive theme only replace mcgee with the army
ROBBEATZZZ
ROBBEATZZZ - 11/17/2010, 7:13 AM
@DrFate ..I DONT USSUALLY LIKE 2 ASSUME...BUT MAYBE HE MEANS..1 ACTOR PLAYING BANNER AND HULK..NOT HIM PLAYING BANNER,THEN SOME 1 ELSE WILL BE USED FOR HULK...OR HIM BEING BANNER THEN ALL CGI HULK...LIKE HE WILL BE DOING ALL THE MOVEMENTS WITH MOTION SUIT AND CGI WILL MAKE HIM BIG AND GREEN...SIMILAR TO HOW THEY DID AVATAR

THERE IS SOME KOOL INFO IN THIS INTERVIEW!..I LIKE THE FACT HE MENTIONS HOW TIH LEFT OFF..GLAD THEY ARE BUILDING OFF OF THAT MOVIE..THEY KINDA HAVE 2 RIGHT!?

@BornToTon

StarWars died unfortunately after "The Empire Strikes Back".
About the point where Lucas became a money scrubbing whore, and sold out his story to "cute" kiddie toys.

After "Wraith of Kahn", it was clear which franchise rose to the top.

The happy picture of a dead "Darth Vader" & company, said it all, at the end of "Return of the Jedi".

"G-A-Y"

who ever hates on Norton can suck it. i think he did a good job as Bruce Banner. I HATE RECASTING!!!! F MARK RUFFALO AND KEVIN FEIGE!!! the lack of consistency and continuity is gonna take away from the Avengers flick for me. i might just wait to get a bootleg.
BetaRayB
BetaRayB - 11/17/2010, 1:49 PM
And while I'm *sort* of excited for a potential Hulk TV show, I worry what they could do with it. The original show was on the other day and the plot synopsis was 'The Hulk befriends a disabled heiress who is being slowly poisoned by her stepmother.' The real kicker? IT WAS A TWO PARTER! Good grief!

I am also concerned by how they said they want a Bruce in his mid-20s. So now we get a 4th Banner actor for 4 different projects, while this runs concurrently with the Ruffalo movie versions and Avengers. What the...?

Ed did a great job. he made the Hulk Incredible...screw Mark Buffalo Ruffalo Chips
Curmudgeon
Curmudgeon - 11/17/2010, 3:56 PM
@ Paulie - The TV series has nothing to do with the film one, and they NEVER said they weren't going to do a sequel.

In fact, this interview pretty clearly implies that THE AVENGERS will still follow on from The Incredible Hulk's storyline.

And Ruffalo is signed for four additional films after the Avengers. That certainly points to them doing Hulk sequels.

"And I've been really thinking about the inception" - lol now the most commonly used word in the movie industry.

I like Ruffalo. He's great in Zodiac and many others... may as well have a trilogy of Banners. It works out one way or another.

Norton's screwed his rep a little now though for sure...

he could be good. it would be super cool if he did the tv show as well and the on screen marvel universe spread to multiple mediums. not that i think that would happen, but it would be cool...
