Sam Worthington is hardly a celebrity. He goes to awards shows and asks for "gigs". Let him be an australian tourist in Avengers, nothing else.

Im sorry Shamen and whoever else who disses on Worthington, He's got a HELL of a lot more tallent than your boy Jensen Ackels. That's why directors are picking him to play the lead roles in mega blockbusters than Ackels. Tell you what Shamen, how bout you stop arm chair directing and casting and go out and go to school and try and be a director yourself. Your a Monday morning quarterback. A backseat driver. lol. i'm joking it sounds funny though1

I have nothing against Worthington personally, but let's look at his career objectively. He doesn't carry movies...the movies carry HIM. Terminator: Salvation...nobody know who the hell he was before the movie and the reason people went to see it was because it was Terminator...Avatar...everybody knew him, but the reason people went to see the movie was because of the spectacle of it...Worthington was in full-on make-up half the movie...CGI'd at THAT! Clash of the Titans...again, the movie is carrying him. Doesn't matter who Perseus is played by, the spectacle and name brand of Clash is what's propelling it (remember Hamlin? not the greatest actor around)...As I said before, I don't hate OR love Worthington. To me, he's just another muscle actor grabbing the action roles. More power to him. But let's keep things in perspective. He's NOT a serious dramatic actor. And to keep things fair...Ackles is in the same boat...just for TV...he's been in Smallville and Supernatural which both shows are not known for their actors having a lot of range.

I like Sammy boy actually, he seems pretty cool and he's a decent if not a great actor, but cmon man..

"He throws a camera around like no one.He brings people together,he's worked with some big boys — plus, he's a fan. We watched some trailers yesterday at ShoWest, and me and him are nudging each other because we're fans," he said.We make movies that we would want to go and see."

Aside from working with some big boys, he could be talking about Ewe Boll.

Could he crawl any further up Leterrier's ass? While I don't think he's a terrible actor, he ain't great either. If you give him a role where he has to lose his accent, he struggles...big time. That's not good. Look at Christian Bale, I bet half of America has no idea he's not American.
InTylerWeTrust
InTylerWeTrust - 3/24/2010, 1:28 PM
Worthington doesn't fit any role in an Avengers film. Not Hank, not Hawkeye, and certainly not Cap, but that's moot since we already have our Cap, and it's a damn good one.

To say Worthington's accent needs work is the understatement of the century. Either he tries to do an American one, and his Aussieness keeps cracking in (Terminator), or he just gives up, and doesn't go for any specific accent, instead just being a mush mouth mix of an Englistralian voice (Clash).

But God bless him for that train wreck of an accent. If he didn't have so much trouble with it, I wouldn't get nearly the amount of enjoyment out of ridiculing him as I do now :)

Saemus13 - 3/24/2010, 2:03 PM
It's funny that all 3 filmsyou guys are complaining about his accent being wobbly in are either set in fictional places abd times or the future...how would you know what his accent would be?...it's like complaining that a hero doesn't fly fast enough, good argument if it existed..Sorry seems like a silly complaint..I could understand if he threw a half ass accent out in the story of Abe Lincoln or something...but these are hard core action flicks...
ecksmanfan
ecksmanfan - 3/24/2010, 2:09 PM
@Saemus- My problem with it is that in Terminator and Avatar, everyone else around them were using American "accents." He was the only one who didn't. Even Bale in Terminator dropped his accent to sound American. It took place in America...
InTylerWeTrust
InTylerWeTrust - 3/24/2010, 2:16 PM
The problem is that Worthington was trying to do an American accent. For an American character. And he couldn't hold it. If Marcus and Jake were said to be Aussie, then yeah, I wouldn't have a problem with his accent. But they were from the USA, and Worthington tried to get rid of his accent, but was unsuccessful.
Saemus13
Saemus13 - 3/24/2010, 3:27 PM
I'm just saying....I understand it was set in America....albeit apocolyptic and future...accents change in time....I understand what the issue is....also, I know this is off topic but with Disney and marvel together...and Tim burtons lack of angst toward Disney I really think a doc strange film is possible soon..I know Depp as strange is off putting at first but think about it...
WalkingPhoenix
WalkingPhoenix - 3/24/2010, 3:37 PM
Yes because there's no Americans that speak with accents. You guys are idiots!!! I think we would all agree Daniel Day Lewis is a Great actor. Did he not speak with his English accent in every movie he has played, especially playing a native american??? "No Matta how long it takes no matta how fa, Oi will find you." Is that the best crap you can come up with his accent? Christian Bale is great, but did his voice not sound the same in Terminator as he sounded as batman???
ecksmanfan
ecksmanfan - 3/24/2010, 3:52 PM
Bale's roles in Batman and Terminator were American characters, hence the accent. If they wanted him to sound like a back woods hill billy, he would've done it and done it well. I agree that Lewis has never lost his accent, nor has Hopkins or many other, but it works for them. As I said before, I don't think Worthington is a bad actor, just not as good as people think he is. Faust said it best up there when he said these movies are carrying him. The roles he is playing could be played by anyone.

He's good enough for some of the best directors in the business to cast him in lead or supporting roles. Who's to say Marcus Wright wasn't an Australian-American or and English-American? Please post his character background bio, and also his character in Avatar that says the character he is playing was born and raised in America. And then again what city was he born and raised in. I think that if Louis Letterer, James Cameron and McG thought that it was a big enough deal to have him speak a grissly Batman accent they would have had Worthington re-do his lines until he got it right.

Did Louis Leterrier think that the part of Calibos was as easy that a caveman can do it? I was watching the new fight scene with Calibos and my wife said "is that a Geico caveman." Just thought that was funny. I'm only kidding, the movie looks badass and I've been looking forward to it since it was announced!

ecksmanfan - 3/24/2010, 4:33 PM
As far as Titans goes, it seems as though no one is losing their accents. I'm pretty sure I've heard at least 7 different accents just in the previews.

I have no idea what the back ground of those characters are. But from what I recall, all the actors surrounding Worthington used American accents.

sam is great..some people think one or two movies is enough to judge someone on...i don t think thats true so aside from that he seems like hes just genuinely a nice guy...and he knew he wasnt gonna get cap...but he is a fan. so why judge him negatively when you are all fans too?

WalkingPhoenix- Wow, did we just insult your mother? Didn't know you were Worthington's bitch. And after that rant you call us arm chair directors, Monday morning quarterbacks & backseat drivers? Dude... you're on a website, bitching about people's opinions... the [frick] does that make you if WE'RE the backseat drivers? The lint & crumbs that are stuck in the crack of the backseat? Oh and here's what you had to say about Chris Evans as Cap on MTl's editorial: "I just watched F4 silver surfer again tonight and all I can say about Evans as Cap is HHHHHEEEEEEELLLLLLLLNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!". But WE'RE the arm chair quarterbacking idiots... obviously.

And why the hell do you bring Jensen into this? Did i even mention him here? Did Jensen try to hog any attention by putting himself in the spotlight by wearing Avengers T's, saying he's a fan and can "fight pretty good"(reference to Worthington's comment about his sheild weilding abilities) or even comment on who the [frick] should direct ...ANYTHING (his director of choice being one of the only three he's ever worked with, guarantying him a "gig"... OF COURSE)??? Yeah, how' bout NO! Worthington has NOTHING to show for the overhype he's getting and proved it well enough in Avatar. I'll have to half agree/disagree with Faust1973's comment. Worthington gets carried by the films he's on. He practically drags them. No one's ever commented on Avatar's acting and how "stellar" they thought it was cause it sure as hell wasn't! The guy couldn't get nominated if his life depended on it! But on Jensen's case, since YOU brought him up, Jensen actually DOES carry Supernatural. The majority of the fans of the show prefer Jensen over Jared. In fact, if Jared wasn't a 7' tall brick shithouse, he'd hardly have any fans because anyone that watches the show knows that Jensen makes it what it is, which is a great show regardless of the station it's on. But because of people's biasism towards the CW, everything and everyone on it is looked down upon. Jensen never asked for ANY of the publicity he got in regards to the Cap role but Worthington was trying to sell his ass off for it. Jensen might be a CW tv actor but Worthington is a whore and a hack. And all you need is the "studios" to tell you someone's great or "directors" chosing someone (completely ignoring the fact that they cost peanuts cause their hacks and the other fact that THEY HAVE NO PRIOR COMMITMENTS i.e. "acting gigs") for you to be indoctrinated in believing that that said person has "talent". And then you call everyone that actually has a mind of their own and the will to voice their opinions against hollywood's braiwashing tactics, idiots??? Well like i always say, the short bus is short for a reason. Just look at all the other people on here voicing their OWN opinion about your special friend. You can like Worthington all you want, but keep your insults for your mindless drone self.

@Walking What was the point in bring up Jensen Ackles? I'm not fond of Worthington's acting, but it's true that he gets big parts. But Jensen Ackles has been busy with Supernatural and that show is a huge commitment in time. Even though A LOT of people wanted him to be Cap, he realistically didn't have the time. But he would have been an awesome Cap. And though the entire CW has a lack of good actors, there are some that are good and Jensen Ackles is fantastic on Supernatural.

But one thing I think everyone might agree with LEEE on is that Jensen would make a great Hawkeye. Where does that leave Worthington? I don't know. I can't see him as any of the Avengers. I just don't see Worthington and think "Wow. That was brilliant." Or even "That was good!"

He can always go back to praying to trees though.

Walking Phoenix, do you even bother to read reply's to your horse shit posts? Worthington's accent would be fine if it was CONSISTENT. He begins both Terminator and Avatar holding down a decent stab at an American accent..and towards the end of both movies, loses it. Are they Australian Americans that do this? Is it a regular thing to switch back and forth between accents? No its not, you unbelievable tool.

Lol, reading this thread was the best 15 minutes i've spent in sometime. @Tyler, i'm with you man, it's completely halarious what gets said when Worthington's name even gets mentioned. Personally, I don't have a problem with the guy, I liked avatar, Terminator wasn't terrible, and I think Clash will be fun. That being said I have no illusions about the guy's acting chops, he's good for those roles but we're never going to see the dude rocking an Oscar for his portrail of Mickey Mantle,a Ford truck, or an apple pie (the three most american icons I could think of)
