MTV caught up with Nicolas Cage to talk to him about
Ghost Rider Spirit of Vengeance where he was asked about when Joel Shumacher
asked him to play The Scarecrow in another Batman film after Batman And Robin. Cage said that he was filming Con Air at the time when Shumacher came by his trailer to talk about the role. There was no talk of character development or anything of that nature with Cage said it was only about an hour long lunch meeting.
On The Shumacher meeting about playing Scarecrow:
"He came to visit me when I was on the set of Con Air. I was in my camper and he said he was going to do another installment of Batman and that he would like me to play The Scarecrow. Which would have been a lot of fun I must admit especially with Joel because he and I share a similar sense of humor. It was literally and hour lunch. That was as far as it went."
On Nolan's Batman series:
"I think he is genuinely philosophical and the dialog that emanated from Heath Ledger was brilliant."
On the Darker tone of Comic book movies today:
"There is room for all kinds I think unfortunately we are living in dark times. And sometimes you need to have heroes that can refelct that. So Ghost Rider is perfect for that. Comic Books are a uniquely American invention that have touched the world now with cinema. And what they are is nothing more than ancient Greek myths Norse mythology, or Grim Fairy tales. They kind of give people and identity to embrace themselves to get them through life."
You can see Cage as Johnny Blaze/The Ghost Rider when
Ghost Rider: Spirit Of Vengeance hits theaters on February 17, 2012.
