The Batman had its UK premiere in London last night, and MTV has now released a video with some of the outlets in attendance sharing their feedback. Though the official review and social embargo doesn't actually lift until Monday, these highly positive early reactions give us some idea of what to expect.
"Matt Reeves delivers a nail-biting, gritty and fun Batman coming-of-age story," said MTV Movies' Hanna Flint, while Unilad described the movie as "absolutely euphoric." Empire felt it was "gripping," Total Film "sensational," and Insider believes "Robert Pattinson will be your new favourite Batman."
Glowing initial reactions are almost to be expected for most movies, of course, but we really haven't heard anyone say a negative thing about The Batman (test screenings were held months ago, remember), so this certainly bodes well for The Dark Knight's latest big-screen outing.
Check out the video, which also contains snippets of new footage, below, and be sure to drop back on Monday to find out what we made of the film.
"Two years of stalking the streets as the Batman (Robert Pattinson), striking fear into the hearts of criminals, has led Bruce Wayne deep into the shadows of Gotham City. With only a few trusted allies — Alfred Pennyworth (Andy Serkis), Lt. James Gordon (Jeffrey Wright) — amongst the city’s corrupt network of officials and high-profile figures, the lone vigilante has established himself as the sole embodiment of vengeance amongst his fellow citizens."
“When a killer targets Gotham’s elite with a series of sadistic machinations, a trail of cryptic clues sends the World’s Greatest Detective on an investigation into the underworld, where he encounters such characters as Selina Kyle/aka Catwoman (Zoë Kravitz), Oswald Cobblepot/aka the Penguin (Colin Farrell), Carmine Falcone (John Turturro), and Edward Nashton/aka the Riddler (Paul Dano). As the evidence begins to lead closer to home and the scale of the perpetrator’s plans becomes clear, Batman must forge new relationships, unmask the culprit, and bring justice to the abuse of power and corruption that has long plagued Gotham City.”
We recently learned that The Batman will be rated PG-13 for “strong violence, disturbing content, drug content, strong language, and some suggestive material.” The movie is set to hit theaters on March 4.
