THE BATMAN: It Looks Like Jeffrey Wright Will Indeed Be Rocking Jim Gordon's Signature Mustache

Was there ever really any doubt? Westworld's Jefferey Wright posed for a photo over the weekend, & it looks like we have confirmation that he'll be sporting James Gordon's signature 'stache in The Batman.

Aside from Neil Hamilton in the '60s Batman TV series, every live-action incarnation of Commissioner Jim Gordon (even Gotham's Ben McKenzie got there eventually) has donned the character's signature mustache from the comics, and it looks like that trend set to continue in Matt Reeves' The Batman.

Jeffrey Wright (Westworld, No Time To Die) posed for a photo with a fan in London yesterday where the film is currently shooting, and as you can see, he is indeed rocking that lip warmer.

In related news, Wright recently spoke to CNET about The Batman, and revealed that one of the reasons he agreed to take the role was because director Matt Reeves shared his love of the classic Adam West series.

“I was a bit of a fan of Batman comics, and comics generally, growing up,” Wright explained. “But I was a lunatic Adam West Batman fan. And Matt Reeves, who is directing the movie, was as well. And we were talking about it and he said, "In my mind, that wasn't camp."

"Now, this is not to say that we're doing an Adam West Batman in any respect," he clarified. "But that for me was my early dive into the Batman cosmos. Matt and I agree it wasn't camp for us, it was deadly serious for an 8-year-old kid. Deadly serious with the most tricked-out heroic technology and bells and whistles this side of James Bond.”

Reeves has already revealed a strong Adam West Batman influence with his new take on The Batmobile (which we take a closer look at below), but we probably shouldn't expect Robert Pattinson's Dark Knight to dance the Batusi or break out the Shark Repellent Spray!

The Batman is set to hit theaters on June 25, 2021.

The Batmobile #1

Yes, this version of the Batmobile is definitely... a car!

Some fans were a little put off by this more realistic design because the past few iterations of the vehicle were so souped-up and borderline cartoonish, but, as Batman purists will no doubt be aware, The Caped Crusader has driven similarly minimalist Batmobiles in the comics many times. This particular take is reminiscent of Neal Adams' design from the '70s and '80s.

The Batmobile #2

This next pic gives us a better look at Bats (Robert Pattison) standing beside the car.

The test footage did provide a detailed look at certain parts of the armor and we have seen those set photos of the stunt double, but this is the first time we've seen a full shot of Pattinson in the costume.

The reaction to this has been mostly positive, although some fans were hoping that this incarnation of the Batsuit would differentiate itself a little more from previous movie versions. It might have been cool to see those angular ears from the hero's earliest appearances, at least.

The Batmobile #3

A closer look at what will likely turn out to be a homemade engine.

This is further evidence that Pattison's take on the character will favor function over fashion, as it appears as if Bruce Wayne has basically just added a few bells and whistles to a standard muscle car. This is the Batmobile, though, so don't be surprised if it's hiding a few surprises for the bad guys somewhere.

What did you guys make of this first look at the Batmobile? Were you hoping for something different? Let us know in the comments.

@Solarkalel85 - I love Jeffrey Wright, for both Gordon and Uatu. Watched Westworld earlier tonight, and I'm again watching the Dark Night for the countless time. If I could combine the two in reality, I'd ask "What If- Heath Ledger was still alive?" This stellar performance still brings tears. My two cents.

@RageDriver2401 - He consistently looks tired behind the eyes, which is pretty much B: TAS Gordon to a T

@tmp3 - yea, he was on one episode of House, that "I'm so done with all this shit but it's my job" look comes very naturally to him.

@regularmovieguy - He's the kind of casting choice where you wouldn't think about him as your immediate choice, but the more you think it through, the more perfect he becomes to where you start imagining scenes or dialogue with them in mind as the character.

@demery - now you see my point in I hate fan casting if fans was decide they be picking guys who most likely looks almost exactly like Jim in comics as I have said for years over and over it’s not who best looks part in book its best who can get job done he doesn’t look like jim with shaved bald head but he may be good at it

OT:

Onward debuted with an estimated 68 mil WW this weekend. Lower than BOP’s 81 mil.

If Soul underperforms/bombs expect a lot more sequels from Pixar.

@regularmovieguy - Onward came on par with domestic tracking, but 32m under internationally. So either they made a film that was too American or the Corona Virus is gonna destroy films' foreign numbers and MGM was ahead of the curve with Bond

@regularmovieguy - I’m gonna say the coronavirus is playing a part in those numbers.

@tmp3

I think MGM made the right move with Bond. Bond is a huge international IP so as bummed as I was about the delay I can understand it.

Onward also tied Cars 2 with the worst Pixar Cinemascore so make of that what you will.

@CBMFilmJunkie

Internationally, no doubt.
