Aside from Neil Hamilton in the '60s
Batman TV series, every live-action incarnation of Commissioner Jim Gordon (even
Gotham's Ben McKenzie got there eventually) has donned the character's signature mustache from the comics, and it looks like that trend set to continue in Matt Reeves'
The Batman.
Jeffrey Wright (
Westworld, No Time To Die) posed for a photo with a fan in London yesterday where the film is currently shooting, and as you can see, he is indeed rocking that lip warmer.
In related news, Wright recently spoke to
CNET about
The Batman, and revealed that one of the reasons he agreed to take the role was because director Matt Reeves shared his love of the classic Adam West series.
“I was a bit of a fan of Batman comics, and comics generally, growing up,” Wright explained.
“But I was a lunatic Adam West Batman fan. And Matt Reeves, who is directing the movie, was as well. And we were talking about it and he said, "In my mind, that wasn't camp."
"Now, this is not to say that we're doing an Adam West Batman in any respect," he clarified.
"But that for me was my early dive into the Batman cosmos. Matt and I agree it wasn't camp for us, it was deadly serious for an 8-year-old kid. Deadly serious with the most tricked-out heroic technology and bells and whistles this side of James Bond.”
Reeves has already revealed a strong Adam West
Batman influence with his new take on The Batmobile (which we take a closer look at below), but we probably shouldn't expect Robert Pattinson's Dark Knight to dance the Batusi or break out the Shark Repellent Spray!
The Batman is set to hit theaters on June 25, 2021.

The Batmobile #1
Yes, this version of the Batmobile is definitely... a car!
Some fans were a little put off by this more realistic design because the past few iterations of the vehicle were so souped-up and borderline cartoonish, but, as Batman purists will no doubt be aware, The Caped Crusader has driven similarly minimalist Batmobiles in the comics many times. This particular take is reminiscent of Neal Adams' design from the '70s and '80s.

This next pic gives us a better look at Bats (Robert Pattison) standing beside the car.
The test footage did provide a detailed look at certain parts of the armor and we have seen those set photos of the stunt double, but this is the first time we've seen a full shot of Pattinson in the costume.
The reaction to this has been mostly positive, although some fans were hoping that this incarnation of the Batsuit would differentiate itself a little more from previous movie versions. It might have been cool to see those angular ears from the hero's earliest appearances, at least.

A closer look at what will likely turn out to be a homemade engine.
This is further evidence that Pattison's take on the character will favor function over fashion, as it appears as if Bruce Wayne has basically just added a few bells and whistles to a standard muscle car. This
is the Batmobile, though, so don't be surprised if it's hiding a few surprises for the bad guys somewhere.
