We've not seen much from The Batman since that superb trailer was released during DC FanDome, but some new promo art gives us a good idea of the tone Matt Reeves is going for with this movie.
Quite clearly inspired by Jeph Loeb and Tim Sale's "Dark Victory," these pieces tease a clash between the Caped Crusader and The Riddler. Newspaper headlines can be seen in one image declaring "Batman Strikes Again," while there are hints the movie's big bad will be inspired by the Gotham City vigilante.
In one of the letters he's written to Batman, The Riddler says "Dear Batman, I now know what I must become." Perhaps that's why he dons the bizarre costume we get a better look at in this artwork?
The Batman is an edgy, action-packed thriller that depicts Batman in his early years, struggling to balance rage with righteousness as he investigates a disturbing mystery that has terrorized Gotham. Robert Pattinson delivers a raw, intense portrayal of Batman as a disillusioned, desperate vigilante awakened by the realization that the anger consuming him makes him no better than the ruthless serial killer he’s hunting.
Also in the star-studded ensemble are Zoë Kravitz as Selina Kyle; Paul Dano as Edward Nashton; Jeffrey Wright as the GCPD’s James Gordon; John Turturro as Carmine Falcone; Peter Sarsgaard as Gotham D.A. Gil Colson; Barry Keoghan as Officer Stanley Merkel; Jayme Lawson as mayoral candidate Bella Reál; with Andy Serkis as Alfred; and Colin Farrell as Oswald Cobblepot.
The Batman is set to be released in theaters on March 4, 2022.
