UNCHARTED Cements Tom Holland's A-List Status By Staying At #1 As THE BATMAN Gears Up For $115+ Million Debut

Uncharted was initially projected to have a relatively low opening, but massively exceeded expectations when it debuted last weekend and remained at #1 this week as well. With a 90% Audience Score on Rotten Tomatoes, moviegoers have embraced the video game adaptation, and Spider-Man: No Way Home star Tom Holland has been cemented as a bona fide box office draw.

With an estimated three-day haul of $23.2 million, Uncharted has now earned a total of $83.3 million in North America. We're waiting on international numbers, but it's no wonder Sony Pictures has already declared this a new movie franchise. Expect a sequel announcement imminently.

Talking of Holland, Spider-Man: No Way Home remained in the #3 spot (behind Channing Tatum's Dog) with a $5.75 million weekend that brings it closer to $800 million. It currently sits at $779.88 million, but all these movies are going to be obliterated next weekend by a certain Caped Crusader.

According to Deadline, The Batman is going to easily make upwards of $100 million during its opening weekend, with advance ticket sales suggesting it could go as high as $115 million. Special IMAX screenings begin on March 1, and all tickets have now sold out.

The review embargo for The Batman lifts tomorrow, so check back here then for our verdict. We also have interviews coming with producer Dylan Clark and stars Jeffrey Wright and Paul Dano.

Expecting 125-135 mil for The Batman. Feel like that Deadline estimate is lowballing it just a little bit, and WOM is going to drive it’s legs.

While I'm glad for Matt Reeves to succeed and the comic book fandom get a fresh cinematic iteration of Batsy to fawn over,I am not happy to see WB take in all the massive profits from this project cos they don't deserve it they been disloyal to the DC universe and it's fans

@superherodevourer - this is such a dumb take. If anything this film should give hope for all comic book fans who want to see creator driven content.

Anything $150M or above for The Batman wouldn't surprise me

Anything below $125M would be disappointing for a movie that looks as good as this one does
TheWalkingCuban
TheWalkingCuban - 2/27/2022, 2:15 PM
@lordSTALE - yeah it’s a huge movie, pretty much needs a huge opening and decent to great legs. I like your numbers, 150 plus, or buss
regularmovieguy
regularmovieguy - 2/27/2022, 2:44 PM
@TheWalkingCuban

150 mil is like the ceiling right now. And would be an incredible opening. 115 mil would be disappointing but it wouldn’t be terrible if the budget is seriously 100 mil.
lordSTALE
lordSTALE - 2/27/2022, 3:12 PM
@regularmovieguy - If NWH can soar high above that ceiling then The Batman can at least get above it 🤷🏽‍♂️
regularmovieguy
regularmovieguy - 2/27/2022, 3:33 PM
@lordSTALE

Lol, you serious? NWH is like one of the most insane outliers in CBM ever. It was the finale of Holland’s first MCU Spider-Man trilogy which was already crazy successful.

It was bringing 3 franchises worth of nostalgia that made it practically guaranteed to make Infinity War/Endgame numbers.

The Batman is a 3 hour reboot that’s apparently grim as hell. It’s not even remotely close.
TheWalkingCuban
TheWalkingCuban - 2/27/2022, 3:37 PM
@regularmovieguy - that’s fair. Feels low for Batman I won’t lie
regularmovieguy
regularmovieguy - 2/27/2022, 3:42 PM
@TheWalkingCuban

The Dark Knight made around 150 mil opening weekend in 2008.

The Dark Knight Rises made 160 mil OW in 2012 (about the same as BvS).

If The Batman made 150 mil opening weekend that would be massive. If it’s as good as it looks I hope it makes that $$ but a noir-driven reboot isn’t going to pull those #s of Nolan’s epic in scope sequels. At least it would be a huge surprise if it did.
TheWalkingCuban
TheWalkingCuban - 2/27/2022, 4:35 PM
@regularmovieguy - when it comes to interested folks that aren’t really nerdy, I’ve heard “penguin looks cool” “how is Pattinson Batman?” That’s it. From my friends and fb friends anyway
lordSTALE
lordSTALE - 2/27/2022, 4:51 PM
@regularmovieguy - Yeah everything you just said is why NWH broke through $250M

I'm saying over $100M less than NWH's opening for Batman who is way more popular than characters like Venom, maybe getting some crazy good reviews, nothing major to compete agaist and has had some of the most hype-generating trailers in years

It really shouldn't even be remotely close to Venom 2
regularmovieguy
regularmovieguy - 2/27/2022, 5:56 PM
@lordSTALE

Feel like you’re reaching pretty hard. Especially when I’ve given you the #s for past Batman outings.

An opening at 115 million would be in line with Spider-Man: Homecoming. NWH is an insane outlier. And not a fair comp just because the trailers are insanely hype inducing.
lordSTALE
lordSTALE - 2/27/2022, 8:03 PM
@regularmovieguy - You didn't give ME those numbers, but I see your point even if I don't agree with it

I expect a Dark Knight opening regardless of pandemic
regularmovieguy
regularmovieguy - 2/27/2022, 8:48 PM
@lordSTALE

I’m just not sure as to why you expect those #s. Just because the trailers are pretty great…there’s just a lot more factors that go into these things.
lordSTALE
lordSTALE - 2/27/2022, 9:32 PM
@regularmovieguy - because for the right movie, with a mega-popular IP and no real competition, it can break pandemic era norms

Everyone can see the "Dark Knight but possibly better" writing on the wall with this one. With the right reviews, $150M shouldn't be difficult
regularmovieguy
regularmovieguy - 2/27/2022, 9:57 PM
@lordSTALE

“With the right reviews, $150M shouldn't be difficult“

Read what you’re saying. Look at how many solo superhero movies have made that benchmark and get back to me.

There’s a lot more factors that go into a movies opening weekend than reviews. Good WOM will factor into a movies legs more than it will opening weekend (although it def goes both ways).

115 mil would be a good opening for this movie and would actually put it more in line with a movie like Spider-Man Homecoming. That movie got really great reviews and it didn’t reach 150 mil opening weekend. After his character had already debuted in CW.
regularmovieguy
regularmovieguy - 2/27/2022, 9:59 PM
Feel like you’re misremembering how big of a phenomenon TDK was in 2008 and still is. Movie had an incredible amount of hype surrounding it, and that was 14 years ago.

I am really curious to see what this makes. I stand by what I said in my post at the top of the page. I think it will do better than 115 mil but probably not a lot more.
lordSTALE
lordSTALE - 2/27/2022, 10:25 PM
@regularmovieguy - The last 3 movie live action movies with Batman or Dark Knight in the title are on that list. And one of those had terrible reviews... Cool 🤔

Yeah and Batman being in it has usually made up that difference. No real competition and great reviews also help. Who TF mentioned WOM and legs? This is just about opening weekend 🤷🏽‍♂️

Homecoming opened in the middle of summer with tons of competition
lordSTALE
lordSTALE - 2/27/2022, 10:31 PM
@regularmovieguy - That phenomenon should carry over to the movie that is most like it. Same amount of hype now 🤨

You're probably right that it'll make that amount, I'm saying it has every advantage to make what I'm saying (if it gets good reviews). I've never predicted that it WILL make that amount, I've just been arguing about the possibility
regularmovieguy
regularmovieguy - 2/27/2022, 10:44 PM
@lordSTALE

Haha…I’ve said all I’ve had to say here man. You say the last 3 movies with Batman made that movie when those were all entirely different circumstances. You’re not looking at any of these movies in a vacuum of when they were released.

150 mil would be an amazing opening for this movie. I highly doubt it does that but it’s not out of question.
lordSTALE
lordSTALE - 2/27/2022, 11:07 PM
@regularmovieguy - I am looking at them in a vacuum and my point sticks, it's the extra circumstances that could have helped your argument 🤷🏽‍♂️

And I'm still saying it should make that even though it's likely it won't

Great numbers for uncharted. Second weekend hold is great.

The batman needs to make alot of money because after 6 weeks it's on HBO max🥲

We all know the film will be good at worst so quality ain't the issue.

Financially I see this film ending it's run between 700 and 800 million.💪

Crazy how the only Spider-Man film to make it to $400m in NA was the very first one all the way back in 2002. Two decades later, No Way Home has almost made twice as much. Woah.

The Batman about to be the biggest opening for DC in like six years or so. Man, it's only a few days away.

Have no interest in either movie.

But if Batman fails, the rest of DC 2022 slate will bomb with it.
