Gary Oldman participated in a Q&A event at New York’s Landmark Sunshine Cinema, where he was conducting a retrospective. During the event he gave away a few brief, but interesting details about a pivotal scene in
The Dark Knight Rises.
“There’s an emotional scene coming up in the next Batman, which I am obviously, absolutely sworn to secrecy about… They would kill me. Well, I’d do the press junket and then they’d kill me.”
“Watching Michael Caine work, as Alfred, was a great lesson for me. Just focus, concentration. He has this emotional scene. I’m kidding you not. It was tears and the whole thing. And it’s ‘Take 1.’ (Oldman snaps his fingers) He got it. ‘Take 2′ (snaps his fingers again), Got it. Take 3 (snaps his fingers) Got it. He’s just on the money. Every single time. It’s just extraordinary… You get inspired by it.”
Now this seems fairly insignificant at first glance, but you have to imagine a scene involving Alfred and Commissioner Gordon. He doesn't directly say that Gordon was sharing the scene with Alfred, but he clearly was on set to see take one, two, and three. Most key actors won't be on set if they aren't needed.
My logical guess is at some point either before that key emotional scene, or after it, the two characters will have some sort of interaction. These are two characters that haven't had scenes together of any magnitude. So what is it that would bring these two characters together, and have Alfred in tears? Uh oh that may not be a good sign for The Caped Crusader.
The Dark Knight Rises hits theaters July 20th 2012 and stars Christian Bale as Bruce Wayne/Batman, Michael Caine as Alfred Pennyworth, Garly Oldman as Jim Gordon, Tom Hardy as Bane, Anne Hathaway as Selina Kyle, Joseph Gordon-Levitt as John Blake and Marion Cotillard as Miranda Tate.
