More From Christopher Nolan On Superman And Batman!

The Inception director discusses the tone of his past two Batman movies and gives a brief update on his plans for the future of the Caped Crusader and Superman...

"I don’t really think of films in terms of light and dark..." Nolan said when questioned by British newspaper The Telegraph about the tone of Batman Begins and The Dark Knight.

He was quick to deny that he's a 'dark' film maker however, "...and I’m often surprised with the two Batman films we have made, for example, that people would think of them as having a dark tone, because to me they’re actually very optimistic and are full of emotionally positive things as well as negative things."

As for how work is coming along on his reboot of Superman, tentatively titled The Man of Steel, he wasnt prepared to reveal all that much about the project: "We’re working on the script but someone else will direct. I can’t really say much more."

As for how he intends to make sure both that and Batman 3 are a success, Nolan remained tight lipped regarding the rumours that Catwoman and the Riddler will appear but said this, "Batman and Superman are very different characters but they’re both iconic and elemental. Finding the right story for them both is the key. That’s the dream!"

He may not reveal anything new, but I thought his points on the past two Batman movies as well as his comment about finding the right story for the characters made it interesting enough to make an article out of! :)

The fact is, we're probably not going to hear anything concrete until they start filming next Spring so little nuggets of info like this that he's revealed during an interview about Inception is probably the best we're going to get for a long, long time!

I can see the Riddler and/or Catwoman in this one. And I do believe Batman will die or be captured by police at the end

That's the dream...

In other words, there's going to be a cross-over movie: Batman Vs. Superman

Both will be good movies. As long as he's looking for the right story, which he is, I'm not worried. Plus Inception was absolutely one of the best films I have ever seen. That movie has just proven that no matter what movie he makes, I have no worries.

Anything this guy touches turns to gold.

Now, I just hope he doesn't get too comfortable or complacent with all of his success...like Spielberg and Lucas.

i think that its really neat how the two new batman movies are so relistic and down to earth...but i also feel like because of suck, introducing some type of alien, or superpowered villian to the movie is no just really out of the question now. :/

This has me totally and entirely way too anxious. I would be very surprised if there isnt some small hint to superman or even a cameo in this next batman film. Since they will be getting made practically about the same time. Just cant wait to see who they have chosaen to fill those blue tights.
supertrackmonkey
supertrackmonkey - 7/20/2010, 2:20 PM
So by Nolan saying that they were working on the script but someone else will direct mean that his brother won't be directing the film anymore?

@blee947 Thank you. Just....Thank you

i'm thinking we need to get ready to deal with all of the casting crap like we did for Captain America. That shit went on forever. But it's always fun to speculate. I'd rather have Nolan tight lipped about this stuff then have him continually running off at the mouth like Millar seems to do and nothing ever happens with it. Don't get me wrong, i Love Millars stuff, he just seems to blab about alot of stuff before its set in stone.

Keeping us in suspense, eh Mr Nolan? Thats cool... Better be worth it. As for Batman 3, to be caught won't work with Gordy in charge. If joker can get free, so will Bats. Don't think killing him is a good idea. Would be selfish. Thats like Nolan claiming the character all to himself. Those that don't read the comics avidly wouldn't understand and as for a reprise, there's those out there who would be like ''Batman? Oh yeah, but didn't he die?'' Not very cool for future franchises. His death in the comics wasn't as popular as Supes, so I vote nay and nay.
