Heath Ledger Doc Reveals Unnerving Details From His DARK KNIGHT Journal

A new teaser for the Heath Ledger: Too Young To Die documentary feature's the late actor's father flicking through the diary kept by his son while he was filming his scenes for The Dark Knight, and some of its contents are downright chilling. Take a look...

It's no secret that Heath Ledger completely immersed himself in playing The Joker for Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight - in fact some believe he may have taken things too far, resulting in drug abuse and depression which ultimately led to his death. We'll probably never know if that was the case, but the following clip from the Heath Ledger: Too Young To Die documentary does at least seem to prove that he may have been taking his research for the role to some unhealthy places.

Following various writing excerpts and images of the likes of Alex from A Clockwork Orange, the final page of his diary reveals the words "bye bye". A portent of the tragedy to come, perhaps?

He only lived to be 28 years old. The news of Heath Ledger's death spread like wildfire. The first major Hollywood star to have died so young in the age of the Internet, his death deeply touched all of Hollywood as well as fans around the world. But Heath Ledger was a reluctant celebrity, a star that didn't really want to be one. By opting to play character roles in small films and declining major offers such as the leading role in "Spiderman", he deliberately made "unwise" choices and risked his career on several occasions. He was far more interested in the serious art of acting than in becoming famous as a Hollywood superstar.

The film traces Heath Ledger's evolution from the young Australian actor, who very early on displayed an enormous gift for acting, to the complex character actor he became, revealing above all an as yet unknown side to this multitalented actor: Beside his work as an actor, Heath Ledger was also a very talented photographer, created collages and produced innovative music videos. Film clips from Heath Ledger's films as well as interviews with his early school day friends, fellow artists from the film industry such as Terry Gilliam, and especially Heath Ledger's father paint a very personal picture of the century talent Heath Ledger.

An amazing actor. Such a shame to think he was only 28 and the roles he could have gone on to create and mesmerize us with. My thoughts too for his daughter, not getting to grow up knowing him. Such a loss.

he may have died young, but he left his mark not only in comic book movie history, but in film history as a whole. he's gone, but he's not going to be forgotten any time soon.

Probably the best villain in film history.

Selfishly, I really wanted to see more of his Joker. There is probably a rough draft of a script written down somewhere about the Dark Knight Rises that was never made. Its probably awesome.

"He was far more interested in the serious art of acting than in becoming famous as a Hollywood superstar."

Wow what a misnomer that was. They make it sound like it's something out of the ordinary to be both at the same time...like it's never been done before.

HAH!

It's not only possible to be both, but it happens quite a lot. Serious acting chops (male and female) AND Hollywood icon status/superstar status/fame.

Whoever uttered that tripe should be ashamed of themselves. A rookie hack would say something so without merit. I hope that no one credible spewed that bunk, because I'd have to be embarrassed FOR them.

I'll always be in awe of his performance "I believe, whatever doesn't kill you, simply makes you... STRANGER."-

I can't say I was a massive fan of most of Heath Ledger's films but I will say this; that man gave me the version of the Joker I've always wanted to see on the big screen. He just took that role and owned it and for that I will always be grateful to him for.

Remember my first time doing his interrogation monologue for Drama Class in highschool and the entire class room went nuts. He's literally one of the main reasons why I took up drama long ago from then up to college. Dedication like that is sure to inspire many individuals to witness his legacy in film for many years to come.

It still sends chills through my body knowing that he was going to actually return in The Dark Knight Rises. We could've seen both him and Scarecrow together wreaking havoc in Gotham. Laughing gas anyone??

Not only did he give us one of the greatest CBM performances, he also gave us one of the best performances ever.

That movie was just something else, it transcended the genre. Not a single CBM can get close enough to this movie, not even a lick

One of the best movie performances I ever seen.

I had a cheese smile during the whole movie. Sad knowing I might not get that same feeling again.

It baffles me that people still think that the joker role was what led to his death, if his last role was playing iron man nobody would have said that it was the role it just so happened that his last BIG movie role was a character that was really dark depressing and evil so everyone assumes it was the role that killed him it was an accidental drug overdose from mixing certain pills. Sure you can say he needed those pills cause of the role but he's been known to take those drugs even before that
