Tom Hardy Reveals How He Got The Part Of Bane In The Dark Knight Rises

While making the press rounds to promote his new film Warrior, Tom Hardy answers the inevitable questions about The Dark Knight Rises and how Christopher Nolan selected him to play Bane.

While interviewing with Collider about his new film Warrior, Tom Hardy revealed how he got the part of Bane in Christopher Nolan's final Batman film:

Collider:Mr. Hardy, a friend of suggested that your deltoids should get its own credit because it is the mass and shape of a separate character. All kidding aside, is it fun or creepy to do that science fair kind of stuff of “I’m only going to eat chicken and broccoli and lift weights. Let’s see what kind of monster I can be.” Is that fun or is it just terrifying?

Hardy: [laughs] The novelty wears off. Initially it was good fun and then you settle in for the tour and the tour is a few months. By the end of Warrior I went on to Inception and it was really nice to just wear a pair of silk pants, a silk shirt, get a sun tan, and to just lay down and sleep a lot. I didn’t have to get beaten up anymore for awhile. But now Chris [Nolan] has asked me to come back and go through the whole thing again of the chicken and broccoli. [laughs] I’m banished with more chicken and broccoli. It’s good fun but at the same time one has to be concerned about their body.

Collider:There must have been many offers after Bronson.

Hardy: When Bronson came out CAA took me on. CAA took me on just as we did Warrior. Bronson came out and it was a great calling card actually for other things. Funny enough, Chris Nolan has never watched Bronson.

Collider:How did he cast you then?

Hardy: He liked me from RocknRolla actually. [laughs] I played the gay getaway driver.

The Dark Knight Rises is an upcoming American superhero film under the development of Christopher Nolan, David S. Goyer, and Jonathan Nolan. Based on the DC Comics character Batman, the film will be the third and final installment in Nolan's Batman film series. The Dark Knight Rises will see the return of Christian Bale, Michael Caine, Gary Oldman, and Morgan Freeman as Batman/Bruce Wayne, Alfred Pennyworth, James Gordon, and Lucius Fox, respectively. The film will introduce the characters of Selina Kyle and Bane—portrayed by Anne Hathaway and Tom Hardy—two central characters from the comic books.

Nolan was initially hesitant about returning to the series for a third time, but agreed to come back after developing a story with his brother and David Goyer that he felt would conclude the series on a satisfactory note. Filming has taken place across the world, including locations in India, London, Glasgow, Los Angeles, New York, and Pittsburgh. Nolan is opting to utilize IMAX cameras for more of the filming to optimize the quality of the picture. As with The Dark Knight, viral marketing campaigns began early during production to help promote the upcoming film. The Dark Knight Rises is scheduled for release in the United States and Canada on July 20, 2012, by Warner Bros.

I finally posted first and was waiting for the confetti to fall or some hot model to come out and give me a years supply of beer and comics. Based on how others have reacted to being first poster on here I thought it would be grand. I am abjectly let down. Here I sit, beer-less and only the T.V. guide to read. Sigh...

Tom is a first rate talent, as is Nolan, so despite the flood of underwhelming pix and info from this movie so far? I still have high confidence it will be a high quality final product.

(lord, I hope...)

Sounds like Hardy is being facetious about the RocknRolla comment. How can Nolan not have seen Bronson?

@Ryguy you mean ISN'T Raimi, right?

"Nolan has never disppointed"-Hardy
No he hasnt, Mr Hardy.
Don't believe him? Go on RT, look at all of his movies, tell me if you see a Rotten film.
You can tell when a director is starting to lose his touch (sad to say, Scorsese. I dont know what to make of his next film, Hugo), and Nolan isnt losing it anytime soon.

Raimi does not make better movies than Nolan lmao. Drag Me To Hell was sooooo lame. A invisible goat demon beating up the chick with uppercuts and shit like the Evil Dead style of corny (but Drag is supposed to be serious and not corny). Nolan has more solid films than Raimi. Spiderman 1 and 2, and Army of Darkness, and maybe the Evil Dead movies. Nolan has BB, TKD, Inception, The Prestige, Memento, and hopefully TDKR. Both are good, I just think Nolan (as Hardy said above) doesn't disappoint when we actually see his movies. He wows audiences with his films. Even if you don't like Batman, he makes movies that get very good reviews (from fans and critics alike).

And Raimi was a producer to some of thee worst movies/shows out in Hollywood. The Grudge, Grudge 2, Boogeyman, Xena, and Hercules. Nolan is a "better" filmmaker through and through, he has an eye for talent.
