Early Tracking For BATMAN V SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE Indicates Huge Opening Weekend

Zack Snyder's highly anticipated superhero-smackdown is still 3 weeks away from release, but the movie officially registered on tracking reports this morning and all signs point to massive opening numbers.

Recently there's been quite a bit of negativity surrounding Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice, amid reports that Warner Bros. may be worrying about how well their Man Of Steel follow-up will be received by general audiences - but if early tracking is anything to go by, Snyder's movie will do just fine.

This morning, Batman V Superman debuted on tracking to huge numbers, suggesting an opening of $140 million (or more) over the March 25-27 weekend in North America - which could put it on track to take in up to $300M-$340M worldwide. If the film actually does those numbers, it would rank fifth in superhero movie opening weekend earnings behind Avengers ($392.5M), Avengers: Age of Ultron ($392.5M), Spider-Man 3 ($381.7M) and Iron Man 3 ($372.5M).

Obviously that remains to be seen, but after a lot of doom-saying over the last week or so this has to be seen as a very positive sign at least. Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice hits theaters on March 25 - will you be there opening weekend?

@Thebest201 - exactly, but that's Deadpool, this is the Trinity -- that's all that worries me, but true, apples and oranges

@batz11 - Why are you speaking as if Deadpool is a bigger name than Batman Superman and WW? If anything the Trinity would have more advantages.

batz11 - 3/3/2016, 9:17 AM
@Shanksman - that's exactly what I'm saying the Trinity is or was WAY bigger than Deadpool...everybody has been waiting for this, seems like the numbers should track higher, all I'm saying...

In before the inevitable flame war that occurs on every BVS article.

$300-340mil seems conservative (since I think the domestic opening will be bigger than the $120-140mil the closer we get to the films release) but that's still the 5th highest opening for a CBM.

Also, it should be noted BVS in one day out did The Dark Knight Rises in pre ticket sales. TDKR did $25mil in pre ticket sales and had a $160mil domestic opening.

@JamesMann - they are being modest with those numbers which is fine,but we all know those numbers are gonna be higher
JamesMann
JamesMann - 3/3/2016, 8:21 AM
@sixthsense - Yeah, with pre ticket sales, how much films usually outperform tracking (Jurassic World was predicted a $90-110mil opening and see what happened) , and hopefully good word of mouth I can't see this making any less than $175mil for its domestic opening weekend. If not $200mil

sixthsense - 3/3/2016, 8:24 AM
@JamesMann - I say min 200 mil,500 mil ww
Shanksman
Shanksman - 3/3/2016, 9:03 AM
@JamesMann - and those analyst predict Star Wars would not cross 200mil and Deadpool around 50-70 mil.

Seriously though, if it doesn't make $180-200M, think I'll be disappointed, you have the Trinity together for god's sake...if this gets bad word-of-mouth, just don't know...hope it does way better than expected!
Brainiac13
Brainiac13 - 3/3/2016, 9:36 AM
@batz11 - Calm down...remember we're 3 weeks out....if it gets $170m...still good for a 2nd movie in the franchise...
batz11
batz11 - 3/3/2016, 9:38 AM
@Brainiac13 - Truth, ok, I'm fine now...it should (and will) crush, haha

@batz11 - but why would you be disappointed? how does what the movie make directly affect your outlook on the film? If you enjoy it, then who cares
batz11
batz11 - 3/3/2016, 9:44 AM
@findingclues4u - that's true, guess I'm just pulling for the DCEU so much, sometimes this stupid shit gets in the way ;)

@batz11 - Wait for reviews to temper expectations.

It's not the 2nd movie in the franchise, it's the second movie in the new extended universe, but these are characters everyone knows and have miles of film on.

We also don't know how normal movie fans will react to another batman story and ignoring the beloved dark knight trilogy.

@batz11 - you really cant blame The Trinity for how dumb America is these days.

JoeMomma29 - 3/3/2016, 8:24 AM
@batz11 - Not making excuses I already said this will do 180 Million domestically......200 million is a tough nut to crack.

batz11 - 3/3/2016, 8:24 AM
