Black Panther: Wakanda Forever ruled the box office this Thanksgiving, and just passed $600 million worldwide. Now, it's the seventh-biggest movie of 2022, though we expect it to eventually surpass Thor: Love and Thunder's $760 million and possibly gross over $1 billion globally.
The Black Panther sequel has so far made over $321 million in North America and $279 million internationally, with its biggest non-U.S. market being the UK ($27 million).
With a mighty $600 million haul, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever has already beaten many of its predecessors, including Captain America: The First Avenger, Iron Man, and Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. It should pass the likes of Iron Man 2 and Ant-Man and The Wasp in the coming days.
We've already heard that Disney plans to push back Black Panther: Wakanda Forever's streaming debut to maximise box office revenue, and with little in the way of competition until Avatar: The Way of Water arrives, that's a smart decision.
Black Panther: Wakanda Forever exceeded expectations over Thanksgiving, and could finish with as much as $67 million over the holidays.
The Rock won't be happy with us pointing this out, but Black Adam has already slipped out of the Top 10 and looks set to end its run with around $370 million worldwide, beating Shazam! by a mere few million dollars (not good news when it cost twice as much to produce). Of course, it recently landed an early Digital release after a pirated Korean copy surfaced online.
"Black Panther: Wakanda Forever ranks among Marvel Studios' best movies, and is an emotional, uplifting, tour de force of a blockbuster," we said in our review of the movie earlier this month. "Letitia Wright delivers a powerhouse performance, while Angela Bassett’s majestic work will leave you reeling."
