New York City And Los Angeles Close All Movie Theaters In Attempt To Slow Down Coronavirus Spread

The box office just received another blow as it's been confirmed that movie theaters in New York City and Los Angeles are closing in a bid to slow down the spread of Coronavirus.

The entertainment industry has been going to great lengths to keep things as contained as possible, hence why premieres, productions, and even upcoming film releases have been postponed (Mulan, F9, and A Quiet Place: Part 2 are among the biggest titles to be delayed).

While official warnings to avoid crowds and stay inside have seemingly fallen on deaf ears, New York City mayor Bill de Blasio and Los Angeles mayor Eric Garcetti have announced sweeping closures of their respective cities. "Nightclubs, movie theaters, small theater houses, and concert venues" are all shutting their doors in the Big Apple. The same, meanwhile, will happen in LA.

Takeout and delivery places will remain open, though, so that hopefully means people won't have to go without food, especially with shelves in supermarkets noticeably empty.

This will be the new norm until the end of the month, and it remains to be seen whether these policies are extended as governments continue to try to slow down the spread of this deadly pandemic. Needless to say, none of this bodes particularly well for Black Widow, and the vast majority of fans remain convinced that the film will be delayed by Disney in the not too distant future.

The important thing is that people stay safe, of course, so closures like these are necessary for now.

Its only a thing they will do in April. The Black Widow will stay on to bring back the audience. They can't just be showing My Spy in May.

@elcamino - They have to make a call on this in the next few days because of the lead time on promotions and ads*. Unless it's virtually certain (and it isn't) I think they'll call it. YMMV.

*tens of millions of dollars.

@JDL - Yeah, I don't understand why Disney and WB are waiting so long, they're just burning through promotion money

@tmp3 - I'll bet ads for new movies have been on hold or been substituted for, for a couple of weeks at the very least.

@elcamino - the CDC has recommended cancellation of gatherings of 50 or more people for the next eight weeks. That extends beyond Black Widow's scheduled release date.

@GreedoSarducci - I just think Marvel will still hold if DC is still putting out Wonder Woman in June.

@elcamino - yeah. With the CDC recommending 50+ crowd size until mid May... Black widow is almost 100% certainty of moving. I don't think it's even a question of "if" but rather when

@elcamino - I wouldn't bet on it.

@ThorArms - My town schools reopen March30th.I think by that day the speculated dead people won't happen and all the closures will be lifted.

What a weird moment in time. The whole world's gonna come to a halt for a while, cinemas everywhere are gonna close. They shut down the gyms here to improve containment, feel like I'm gonna shrink by the time the situation's gotten better
