Chris Evans "Almost Terrified" To Think About Saying Goodbye To CAPTAIN AMERICA Role

Now that his contract with Marvel Studios is almost up, Chris Evans has admitted to being a bit terrified despite frequently mentioning that he's ready to pursue other filmmaking endeavors beyond playing Captain America in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Check it out!

Next year's highly-anticipated Captain America: Civil War will be the fifth (or sixth) time Chris Evans will have portrayed the shield-slinging super soldier on the big-screen. And because his six-picture deal with Marvel Studios will be fulfilled when he returns in the two-part Avengers: Infinity War, which starts shooting next year, the actor recently admitted to Entertainment Tonight that he does feel a bit frantic about saying goodbye to Captain America and the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

“It’s almost terrifying to think about these being done,” said Chris Evans, while promoting his directorial debut Before We Go, which he credits Marvel for the opportunity. “It always feels so good to kind of wrap and just say, ‘Alright, one more down.’ But it's also kind of like high school in a sense. You keep looking to when you're going to be done, and we're almost done now, and you're not quite ready for it to be over.” Evans then reiterated how he plans to direct after his Marvel contract is up. “I love acting and I'll always love acting,” he said. “It's my first love. But I really enjoy [directing]. I'm kind of excited to take the knowledge I acquired during this process and apply it to the next one.” In separate interview with USA Today, Chris Evans revealed that he has an untitled project he wants to finish before starting Avengers: Infinity War in October 2016.

Directed by Anthony & Joe Russo from a screenplay by Christopher Markus & Stephen McFeely, Captain America: Civil War picks up where Avengers: Age of Ultron left off, as Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) leads the new team of Avengers in their continued efforts to safeguard humanity. After another international incident involving the Avengers results in collateral damage, political pressure mounts to install a system of accountability and a governing body to determine when to enlist the services of the team. The new status quo fractures the Avengers while they try to protect the world from a new and nefarious villain. Starring Chris Evans, Robert Downey Jr., Scarlett Johansson, Sebastian Stan, Anthony Mackie, Paul Bettany, Jeremy Renner, Don Cheadle, Elizabeth Olsen, Paul Rudd, Chadwick Boseman, Emily VanCamp, Daniel Brühl, Frank Grillo, William Hurt, and Martin Freeman, Captain America: Civil War is set for release on May 6, 2016.

Yeah, I agree I can't see anyone else playing him. Unless Sebastian Stan or Anthony Mackie take over the mantle.

I hope he has a recurring role throughout the MCU

I CAN'T imagine ANYONE else playing this character. Chris Evans IS captain america. He's breathed so much life into the role and made Cap, in my opinion, one of the best superheores to appear on the silver screen. He's badaas, righteous and corageous. He's old fashioned in the best of ways. Evans is just a boss and a class act. I'll be sad to see him go. When Thanos kills him, Im gonna SALUTE THE KID FROM BROOKLYN

From the sounds of it, he probably won't sign a new Marvel contract. I really hope he does since I love his portrayal of Cap. More so than RDJ with Iron Man or Chris with Thor.

Then don't stop playing Cap. I mean I doubt they will do more Cap films after Civil War. You and RDJ just keep sticking around in Avengers films and supporting roles in other films.

Disney should just offer Chris a butt load of $$$ like they did RDJ and tell him how valuable he is to the company. Chris is a lot younger, more appealing to the younger generation AND the women. . . . besides, my wife says I have a man-crush on him and I can't argue with her. ;)

He's not going anywhere for a long time. His directorial debut has a 13% on Rotten Tomatoes.

Chris Evans should just own the role for 20 years like Hugh Jackman with Wolverine.

I thought I was the only one who preferred Captain America to Iron Man.

I can see Chris Evans want to diversify his filmography and woundn't mind him passing on the mantle to Sam or Bucky.

I love Chris Evans as Cap. Marvel really couldn't have picked a better Steve Rogers. I'm gonna miss him a lot.
With that being said, I guess I wouldn't mind seeing Bucky as Cap, but it definitely won't be the same.

I may be in the minority here, but if Cap passes the mantle down in the films (or dies and is replaced) I would rather see it go to Falcon than Bucky.

I fully expect there to be some kind of "everyone dies" aspect to Ragnarok with some later continuation of the Asgardian stuff after Infinity War (maybe with a Valkyrie trilogy or possibly just a fourquel for Thor) where the gods are reborn out of Hel or something. So even if Cap dies in Infinity War, he could still return to life in the process.

I know people get pissy about nobody dying in Marvel movies, but at a certain level that's okay. Nobody truly died in Greek mythology either (every time any of their heroes made a trip through the underworld, they inevitably ran into dead heroes who had something to say or do).

Far too often, people have conflated "character death" with "drama", but the real drama has always been the emotional impact that those deaths had on the living. The drama comes from the sudden tragic change or loss, not the death itself. Steve lost his world when he was frozen. He lost his best girl. Not because anyone died, but because everything changed. That's where the drama is.

@blackandyellow

Ouch. Don't know anything about that project, but it seems like the Judge squelched any desire for RDJ to leave the MCU gravy train. Maybe Chris will get a similar feeling, as well.

Besides, once his trilogy is done, he can still appear in the occasional team-up film (maybe once every three or five years) and have plenty of time for other projects. Win/win, I say.

Hmmmmm sooner or later all these actors are going to leave, let us hope it is not a mass exit but a trickle over time.

Think about it do you put new actors to play IM, Thor, and Cap or reboot? That is a tough decision to make.
