Chris Evans Says FANTASTIC FOUR Had 'Lot To Do with' CAPTAIN AMERICA Hesitance

The star of the upcoming Captain America: The Winter Soldier talks about his concerns of getting the role as Cap, and also shares thoughts on The Fantastic Four and Michael B. Jordan. Hit the jump!

"The Fantastic Four had a lot to do with my concerns about playing Captain America," admits Chris Evans to the Toronto Sun. “Those Fantastic Four movies… how do you say this correctly? This is where interviews get tricky. If you’re going to get locked up in a long-term contract, you’ve got to make sure the movies you’re making are movies you’ll be proud of. With a lot of movies I’ve made, I’ve had something to question. And the Fantastic Four was a three-movie deal (though only two were ever made). Captain America was a six-picture contract (counting three Avengers movies). And Robert Downey Jr. had already set the tone with the Iron Man movies, there already was a following. So those six movies were for real.”

He then shared thoughts on finally accepting the role and being given the opportunity: “Had I not done these movies, it would have been the biggest mistake of my life, my biggest regret – and there are plenty. In retrospect, Marvel has been a beautiful element in my life, affording me the opportunity to do such things"

Finally, about Fox's upcoming Fantastic Four reboot and the actor now playing Johnny Storm, aka the Human Torch, Chris Evans says, “I think it’s great that they’re picking it up again,” There’s a lot more story to tell. And I think Michael B. Jordan is just a phenomenal actor.”

I completely agree on the statement above. I watched CA:TWS for the second time today. It is probably the best MCU solo film yet and one of the best action films I have ever seen.

He's so goddamn likeable and a really talented actor.
It's a shame he's leaving.
But I guess if he's at a point in his career where he wants to do something different then that's fine, and as fans we can fully support him.

I live you Chris!

@0megaDaGod

I concur. He also really reminds me a LOT of one of my friends, which endears him of course to me. But I appreciate how frank he can be, as well as humble.

In hindsight Marvel couldn't have picked anyone better to play Steve Rogers. And, the popularity of the character is going to soar after the success of CA: TWS.

I was skeptical when he first got cast, but man Evans' personality is nearly identical to Steve Rogers'. I LOVE IT

Sounds like he kind of regrets doing the FF movies. Can't blame him.

Marvel may give him a pay boost to reprise his role as Cap after contract is over.
Negotiations are always taking place by agents & studios.

The best thing about Chris Evans is that he really is Captain America.

Of all of the things wrong with those FF films, he was not one of them. He had Johnny Storm DOWN and his dynamic with Chiklis was an amazing representation of how those two characters interact. Beyond that, however, those films were NOT good.

Gonna say that i still remember when i heard they were gonna cast. I bashed the hell outta it. I thought, damn, they really gonna mess up cap. Everyone i knew, n honestly i been on this site reading for a long ass time, everyone felt the same way. And now i am admitting i am wrong. So so so wrong. We have a place next week for the price of one ticket, you get to sit and watch the first cap, avengers, and the new TWS. And that is on thursday!! Got my ticket, got my "buddies", and cant be more excited!!

Perfect for Cap, i bashed it at first too but... he's similar to Cap in his honesty and high character. Awesome.
Also he was one of the only good things about FF movies. Shame.

I don't normally like the casting of WWE guys in films but one guy doesn't quite do the simplistic, clowny shtick crap like The Rock and doesn't suck like Batista. He's very different than those guys and when I see this guy I see Ben Grimm...

SugarYumYum
SugarYumYum - 3/29/2014, 12:31 AM
It's really always a pleasure to read one of Chris's interviews. The guy tells it like it is but in the most sincere way and he really just seems to have such a remarkably cool personality that doesn't come off as out-of-touch-with-the-rest-of-us.

It's a shame he's leaving acting just because he seems to be part of an endangered species in Tinseltown but glad he'll get to do what he wants.

Oh and hopefully this satisfies the people convinced that he hates doing the Cap gig.

@ThePowerCosmic: What If...

Chris Evans: I'm glad they are rebooting Fantastic Four, I just wish Human torch wasn't black on the left half of his face instead of the right half.

Honestly, what did we all expect him to say?

Can we stop with the stupid, ignorant complaints, already? There's a rover on Mars. Get over the skin color thing.
Luminus
Luminus - 3/29/2014, 2:14 AM
Hey, I don't like mutants because they were born with powers, but the Fantastic Four (who got powers by accident, which is basically the same thing)... they are A-OK!

Just random hypocrisy for you.

Jwe75 - 3/29/2014, 2:15 AM
There was a lot of noice and complaining when they revealed Avengers cast in 2010 and Chris was going to be Captain America. Many said that he is Human torch already and he cant be Cap etc.

Anyway, Chris has been perfect for the role and i cannot imagine any better actor for the role at the moment. Marvel has also revealed since more back stories about the casting for the role. Chris was their number 1 choice allways ;)

I guess he made right decision cause he played in the best Marvel studio movie. CA Winter Soldier....even one person I know who didn't like Captain America at all cause he thought he was boring and all change his mind after this movie....awesome movie. Now TASM2 has to deliver...after that Xmen and it will be the best year for CBM fan ever.

@mandeath

is it because CM Punk yells "its clobbering time" every time before he runs down the ramp for his intro? XD

but i actually agree with you, he's a great actor, probably the best in the wwe and better than the rock actually, he'd be a better fit than jaime bell.

Luminus
Luminus - 3/29/2014, 2:37 AM
Oh, wait, did you mean actor as in movies or WWE "actor?" There's a big difference. The Rock is the best promo cutter/crap talker in WWE ever. Period. But his Hollywood acting leaves much to be desired. I haven't seen C.M. Punk in a film, so you can't actually say he's better than the Rock until he demonstrates that.
FOOM
FOOM - 3/29/2014, 2:42 AM
@The4FHypeDisaster

That's because Marvel wanted him as a leading man in his own film and could see his potential. And if you know anything about the FF you'd know he brought no shame to the Johnny Storm role. Time for your nap kid.

Michael BJ can [frick] off. I am not going to see this dump of a movie. Like I have said before, I am going to actively get people to not see this movie. I am not going to go out of my way too much, but if I am ever asked about it or hear my friends are going to go see it I will discourage them.
ManDeth
ManDeth - 3/29/2014, 3:29 AM
@Carnage67 He does really act instead of just perform like the majority of other wrestlers. Maybe he'll get a part on Walking Dead.
